Ok, Im thinking on taking the leap to synthetic Oil this go round (6K).
Probably Mobile 1 (if I can find it) but I was wondering....
once you start with synthetic do you have to stay with synthetic?
I remember when it first came out and people were talking about
seals going out if you switch. Something about once you start you have to continue with it or you have problems. Was that BS or is it still the case...and if so why?
Oh sooo many questions!!

I used Mobil 1, I've always used Mobil 1 oil in all my cars, my father uses it, my buddies use them, everyone that I possibly know uses Mobil 1, and has known to me to be the best oil out there. Most Reliable!

i used synthetic with my old chevy, i went about 2 years with it and eventually said fug it and went back to regular.. nothing ever happened, i expected something to, but no.. i would never EVER take that chance with my mustang..
i'd say if you start using it don't stop.. just be prepared for it to always cost twice as much when oil change time comes.. and keep a quart or two in your trunk, it can be a female dog to find the synthetic when you're out in the dox..
mobil 1 is what i used on my old car and i use it on mine now..

Picked up a quart today from Advance Auto(5.44)to go along with my 6 pack because I was hearing its about 6.5 to fill to full mark when doing oil and filter.

I work at a chemical plant next to an Esso facility so I decided to have a chat with one of their engineers. He said synthetics are good for cars used for racing and if you want to go longer without changing your oil, but in the end he said "save your money for retirement and buy regular oil and change it at the normal intervals." Guess I won't bother switching to synthetic.

I will be putting either M1 or Amsoil in at my next change. I will then go at least 5K miles before my next change.
Synthetic not only protects your engine way better, but it gives you a bit of extra HP as well.
I'm planning on keeping my car a long time, so only the best will do.

I've been running 5W-20 Amsoil XL 7500 since the 3000 mile mark. Been doing the same in my '04 F-150 and with the last few trucks as well. I can't personally swear to any benefit other than longer intervals between changes. The extra $25 per change is well worth not having to go though the whole mess twice as ofter. And, if it's beneficial in any way to my engines internals, than it's a no brainer for me.

Well I have 4 cars and all are on Mobil 1. Two are just over 100,000 miles. I change my oil every 12,000 miles and the filters every 3,000 to 4,000 between oil changes.
Mineral oil breaks down with temperature and age. They oxidize as well. This is were some of the wear and tear comes from and why you need to change out minerals oils at 3,000 mile intervals it you are nice to you engine. If you are doing the same for full syn (not syn and mineral oil blended) then you are waisting your money. A para Sys (mineral and synthetic oil blended) is not going to be good for high interval oil changes.

Now this is the kind of info that I come to this site for, very useful stuff. I think I've made up my mind, living in upstate NY the sythetic will be useful to reduce wear on start ups due to the unbelieveable cold.
