Supercharger... worth it?
Supercharger... worth it?
Hey guys, I am considering getting a stage 2 Saleen. The thing holding me back is I do not go to the track. This car is not my daily driver, just a toy. I have the basic bolt ons, but I am ready to step up.Would I be just as happy with the "feeling" of power from 4.10s? How much do you really use boost, or is it just knowing its there? Thanks for your replies
first thing Brenspeed asked me when i ordered my SC was what gears i had, and suggested changing the 3.31's
My GT is a daily driver and having a blower has really made my commutes 200% more entertaining. My car sees track duty at the local dragstrips in the summer, too. I went with 4.10 gears, as well, to get into the higher rpm powerband of my centrifugal blower easier. If you're looking at a Saleen blower, its instant torque and lower rpm powerband won't need 4.10's like my car does, but sure wouldn't hurt.
Thanks guys, I have never been in a car with a supercharger so I do not know what I am missing. The typical mods are adding up, so I thought why mess around get what you really want! I have an install set up with Brenspeed for delete plates, drive shaft, and 4.10s. Now I am considering the Saleen instead of delete plates, gears, and cams down the road. Thanks again
I had 4.10s when I had the KB twin screw SC installed. For me, that was too low of a gear. I had very little traction through 3rd gear if I kept my foot on the gas, so I changed to 3.73s. They are perfect for my setup!
By far the best mod I have ever done to a car, period! Mine is used about the same yours as it is not a DD, just a weekend toy. Every time I drive it since installing the E-force last year puts a huge smile on my face. And the great thing about this upgrade is the ability to drive it normal and get good gas mileage (when you stay out of boost), or you can stomp on it and have some fun

I say if you get a positive displacement blower like the Saleen, Whipple, TVS, Kenny Bell you will always feel boost and stump pulling torque! A centrifugal blower like Procharger, Vortech, Paxton will pretty much feel stock under 3000 rpm's, so if you don't rev much, you might not enjoy the boost as much. I had both the Procharger and now the Whipple on my car and they both make serious power, but the Whipple (or any positive displacement blower) will always be pumping extra power and torque down even at normal driving conditions. My Procharger was cool too, but I would draw more attention with it when using boost because of taching up to get in the torque peak.
With that Saleen system, you'll come out of a curve in the road without downshifting at all and the car will just pull hard at low R's like you wouldn't believe. GO FOR IT!
