Sub 4 second 0-60mph and 7:35 Nurburgring Lap Time
hi
do you think a 2007 mustang with over 700bhp and a good suspension/traction control package can do 0-60mph in less than 4 seconds and lap the nurburgring in around 7 minutes and 40 seconds?
or would more power be needed?
Is there anyone from europe on these forums who has taken their car around the ring?
has anyone done any weight reduction on their car, if so how much weight did you manage to reduce?
also what do you guys thinks of the people who have swapped the original mustang engine for a LS7 (twin turbo)?

Hey welcome CrazyEgg!! You picked your handle pretty good. If you are really from Europe you have to understand that there are about 10 mustangs in this country that are putting out 700bhp from 281 cubic inches. That is 2.49 hp/cubic inch of displacement. I am not sure the most advance car in the world can do those kind of numbers. Welcome to TMS!! And how many have swapped out the original engine for a LS7 (twin turbo) ?????

The best way to get the car fast enough and still streetable would be to reduce weight. That way you don't need as much power. If I had the money my dream would be to have every exterior body panel of the car removed and a carbon fiber replacement made. I'm sure that would shed a couple hundred pounds. Then it comes down to how much interior you want to keep. If you pulled all the body panels, and stereo stuff, and heater/ac units, and rear seat delete and some light weight racing buckets I'm sure you could get the car under 2900. Throw on some light weight wheels and you could have one fast car. Even the stock 300 hp would seem like a lot. If you slapped a turbo setup on there with all the supporting mods you could easily make 550rwhp-650rwhp. That would be one terrifying ride lol.

thanks for all the replies
sorry what i meant was that the people (as in a company) who have done the ls7 twin turbo mustang called the heretic (search on google for mustang ls7)
i think they are the only ones who have done that
thats what i'd like to know, because on one of the forums someone says its blasphemy to have a mustang with a GM engine?
do you guys agree with that statement?
youre right kanchoo 0-60 times are easy compared to a car which will be good on a track
i had the same idea of getting carbon fibre panels but that would be way too expensive and i dont even know if anyone actually does it
i only asked becuase the new skyline gt-r can go around the ring in 7:38 and that only has 480bhp even though it has one of the most sophisticated 4wd systems
so i just thought with stiffer and better suspension and much more power it could get close to the GT-r's time
you could have a great car both handling and looks wise if you had a gt-r, took off the body and put on a gt500 body

i've taken a fairly stock '5 around the ring. Did a few 10 min laps. But was on open public days with traffic. Now get rid of traffic, more seat time for me and I would knock a minuete off the lap easy. I'd say to pull lower then 4 sec 0-60 mph, you need a kick *** suspension, and say 550 hp to the tires. I can see a s197 car doing mid 7 min laps but gonna take driver and chassis work. You can have a million hp but getting it to work with the car, track, and driver is the key.

Do a search on YouTube for member "ozan169". He posted some vids of his '05 at the Ring.
As for the mid 7' laps, I'm afraid it's gonna take more than a supercharger and a perfect suspension setup for a S197 Mustang to lap the Ring so quickly.
Oh yeah, welcome to TMS!

i understand
i was looking at videos on youtube and i came up with the one about the prodrive p2
it has a very sophisticated e-differential and it is very quick even though it has less power than similar cars
i think this combined with around 650-700rwhp could have a very good chance of getting mid 7 minute laps
also what kind of stuff would have to be done to the chassis?
would the ford 5.4L v8 be reliable when it has to put out 700bhp or will an engine swap be necessary?
thats why i asked you guys about what you think of the LS7 engine
obviously if it were going to be done a pro driver with good experience of the ring will be in the driving seat
finally on another subject can 2 average height and build people fit in the rear seats of the mustang comfortably?

Hey if Hans Shtouck was driving a factory setup car a good lap time is possible. He has more laps around the ring then anyone. If you are driving forget it......I watched a video where Hans was driving a factory Bimmer and I got lost after the 50th or 60th turn......How long do think it would take someone new to the ring to learn the track for the best possible time? Years........ It sure would be fun to ship your car over and spend a day or two ripping around there.......The ultimate open track day..... GA

A properly tuned 5.4 engine could handle that power easily but that's the engine from a shelby gt500 not a standard gt. the gt is just a 4.6 v8 It also can handle the power when done up right. Many believe the block itself could handle 1500hp.
2 average height and build people could NOT fit very comfortably in the back of a s197. I've had a couple 6" guys in there for a 2 hour road trip and it was doable but a tight fit on the guys legs. I had to have my driver seat farther ahead than I would usually.

the last time i played gt4 was more than a year ago and when i did play the cars of my choice were a r34 skyline and a ford GT
well kanchoo i dont know if this is possible but couldnt a mustang body be mated to another chassis (something from an evo or an impreza)
and then a lot wont have to be changed because they are both AWD and they handle brilliantly
(i should know i used to own one)
i'm not specalised in any mechanical field so i dont know if this could be done
also thanks kanchoo for telling me about the rear seats
and gary i completely agree with you, a pro will definitely have to be at the wheel to get the best out of a car

Nissan fubared the track times for the GT-R. No official times for that car were released. There's NO WAY a street car with that much hp (even though it is underrated) lapped the ring that fast. I laughed when I first saw those times. It's a bad idea to believe anything you see released about Japanese cars before they're released, they're notorious for trying to create hype with bull**** hp numbers and track times.

And don't get me wrong, the R35 GTR is one of the most amazing cars ever to be released, it's just not THAT amazing.
edit: I also just noticed they started and stopped the clock at different points on the track

He makes a good point. As far as handling, aerodynamics, braking and power goes the c6 z06 would be a much better starting platform. And by the time you did all the weight reduction and power mods to the mustang it would basically cost the same as the vette anyway.

You're both right......
BUT THEN IT WOULDN'T BE A MUSTANG, WOULD IT??

you aren't by chance, trying to win some sort of a bet with a Nissan fan are you? This thread has a "two friends arguing in GT4" feel to it, hehe.

To run a 7:35 at the Ring, you'd probably have close to 100K into the car. You'd need to build custom body components for aerodyamics, preferably carbon fiber to reduce weight. That alone could cost you an arm and a leg.
