Strut Tower Brace madness! Post your experience

Since the Factory plenum cover is out and we have mulitple companies now with strut braces, I for one am confused with what works with what. I thought we might put together a list of what clears the cover and/or hood/mat for the layman. Please post you strut brace review:

UPDATED 29 JUL 06
Entry 1
Type Bar: Strange
Type hood:Stock
Fits over Plenum cover?
- Ford - Y
- Midwest - Y
- BBK - ?
Clears hood mat? N
Req hood structure mod? N
Any other mod to fit right? Fits without rubbing with hood mat removed

Entry 2
Type Bar: Edelbrock
Type hood:Stock
Fits over Plenum cover?
- Ford - ?
- Midwest - ?
- BBK - ?
Clears hood mat? N
Req hood structure mod? N
Any other mod to fit right? --

Entry 3
Type Bar: Granatelli - Single bar style
Type hood:Stock
Fits over Plenum cover?
- Ford - Y (close)
- Midwest - Y
- BBK - ?
Clears hood mat? Mixed results. may depend on mat sag
Req hood structure mod? N
Any other mod to fit right? --

You might consider putting this in a poll format and it would be easier to tell what's going on.

Poll nothin'... This needs a G D spreadsheet with all the combos and questions.
I want to know what is what before I choose. I want one but I am so confused now I don't know when I will buy. I've got money set aside, but g-whizz what to do?

I have a Ford Plenum cover on order and a Strange Development STB on the way. There is a post with pics (other mods section) showing that this combo fits under a stock hood with slight denting of the underhood insulation, but Does Not rub the stock hood with insulation removed. This has been the only stock hood/ Ford cover/ STB combo that I have seen that works together with out modifing the hood. Hope that helps out.

Anything is possible if you want to spend enough money but it would be an engineering feat for sure!

I think that the Granatelli single bar brace will fit over the Ford cover. When my cover arrives I will let everyone know.

I have an Edelbrock STB. I don't have a plenum cover, so I am not sure if it would clear it. It is about 3/4" from the existing plenum, if that info helps, and it does rub the hood liner.

I've got the Strange STB and the Midwest Auto Gear plenum cover. The stb isn't touching the plenum cover, but it is pressing into the hood blanket a little. I'm not too concerned about that though.

This confused me for a while as well. But now I know what will work:

Type Bar: Strange Developement STB, polished
Type hood: Stock
Plenum cover? Y
- Type cover: FRPP
- Clears cover? Y
Clears hood mat? N/A Don't have any
Req hood structure mod? N clears hood fine
Any other mod to fit right? 1 beer, prefer bottled.

I researched this for a year before I finally found an STB that would work. Looks great too.

Thumbs up Granatelli Single STB

Looks like the Granatelli Single STB not only clears the Ford Engine Cover, but also fits under the stock hood without rubbing on the hood blanket. I have the same combo on order, so glad to hear it works!

I have ordered the Granatelli double street after all this good info.
I am not using a plenum cover and it is lower than the single, so it should clear the hood blanket very nicely. Pictures next week.

Graypny said his Granatelli rubs. Probably depends on how much the blanket sags.

Yeah Brad, you are correct. dekujala said his doesn't rub, and Graypny said his does. So like you said, it will depends on how much the blanket sags down. Hopefully a 2007 won't sag down that much, for a while anyway, ha, ha.

Are you talking about your posts under the thread "Anyone have the Granatelli single strut tower brace?" in GT Performance? If so, they are still there. That is why Brad and I were referring to them and why we have the links to that thread posted here. I never saw your comments posted in this thread, so that is why I made a post with the link.

That's what happens when there are 15 simultaneous threads on the same dam topic...

... like strut braces, exhausts, shifters, etc.
