I'm wondering what most have done when swapping out springs and struts. Did you reuse any of the old parts or buy new?

Specifically, I have purchased Steeda Sport springs and Tokico D spec struts and wanted to pre-assemble to reduce installation time.

What I can't seem to find available is the "Coil Spring Isolator" some call it a sleeve (the rubber tubing at the bottom of the spring separating the spring from contacting the strut seat directly) and the other part is strut "boot & jounce bumper" (rubber bumper doughnut and accordion protecting boot that goes over the strut input shaft).

I have found this KYB strut boot kit http://www.archcartpro.com/users/autobarn/cks-6/newlookup.php?Year=2006&Make=FORD&Model=MUSTANG&Ca tegory=STRUT+BOOT+KITwhich comes with both the boot and jounce bumper. Ford does not seem to sell the bumper and boot separate from the OEM strut.

My concern from reading is that there seems to be a need to have the right dampening material and specific size jounce bumper so as not to damage the strut. Much like the endless discussions about cutting the rear jounce bumpers, but nothing definitive for the front.

Ok, if you can't tell by now I've got analysis paralysis and need your help. At this point it seems easier to just pull the old struts and reuse the old parts. But need some group think on the topic .

I know, what was my question. Which strut boot, jounce bumper, and spring isolator/sleeve did you use if any? Your input is greatly appreciated.

 

I did Steeda springs and Koni shocks. I reused the stock components as instructed. Hope this helps.

Thank you for the feedback. I think I'll just do the same. The added cost of finding new parts is not worth the extra time to disassemble the old and move to the new.

 

It doesn't take as much time as you might think to do the swap, provided you have air/power tools. You might think about getting replacement strut mounts, move up to the GT500 units or get a caster/camber plate.

I reused the old stuff. Put in Steeda Sport, Koni STR.t, and Steeda mounts.
