Stock Throttle Body Question

Ok, this may be the wrong place to post this, but I need some help. I'm having my throttle body and my c&l intake tube polished. The shop doing the polishing told me i need to take the plastic pieces off of each side of the throttle body. one piece is a plug (not to worried about that) but the other side has what I think are gears inside the housing. Do I dare take this off???????? If so is there anything I need to be aware of. The shop said they have to have the plastic pieces removed and they don't feel comfortable doing it. Their specialty is polishing metal, not engine mechanics. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

I believe that is the throttle by wire that is electrically controlled by your pedal. I dont know about messing with that.

I thought about getting a dremel tool and doing some polishing on it while it is still installed.

I just spoke to a Ford technician at a local dealership and he said don't touch it. They are just going to have to polish around it.

I can tell you the screws have a locktite on their threads and were very difficult to brake loose the screws just to sand and paint mine. I only got a few threads to back off and then they locked up. Just enough to clean a tape the area. I was very lucky that they closed back tight. Not something I would want to try again.
