Stock H pipe question

H pipe question... If our cars come with an H pipe stock why would I get an aftermarket off-road H pipe? Is it flow or better sound? I want a deeper sound out of my exhaust. I could replace the mufflers but i just don't know what I want! I was reading that replacing the H-pipe would make it louder and deeper. Would replacing the H-pipe with stock mufflers make a difference in sound? I'm not concerned with performance I just want it a little louder So I cant hear the intake over the *** end. Any opinions?

I think the after market h pipes come with out cats but I'm not 100% sure. If you want a little more sound swap out the mufflers. In Il you need cats to pass emissions hooooray for Il. Love that yellow

Aftermarket offers either high flow cats or no cats at all (off road). Both will increase throttle response, volume, and power. If you only care about sound, you'd love shorty headers. From what you're saying, it sounds like you need shorty headers, stock mid pipe, and axel backs. I really like the bulitt mufflers and flowmasters. Very deep and aggressive. Try some YouTube videos, they're hard to hear but at least you can get an idea. Going with an off road h will probably be louder than you want. I have long tubes, an o/r h, and flows. It's ****in loud. Literally, I show up at people's houses and they open the door before I yank the e brake in the driveway. If you want a little more volume with a deeper sound check in to what I mentioned before. I think you'll dig it.

yea I'm running long tubes with high flow catted xpipe with stock mufflers. I get complaments on the sound all the time. I just took a stock set of mufflers cut the tops off and did a little butchering on the guts. Sound is much deeper now.

Yea that's cool man. Interesting how you opened it up like that. Last time I was at the track I was getting all kinds of compliments. I have cams too, most people were blown away when they heard my car start up because they thought it was the galaxie 500 next to me lol

I tried a bassani x pipe with no cats and it was way to loud. I have slp loud mouths and with my supercharger when I step on it she screams. I'm pretty happy with the slp

AAAHHHHH, DUH! Off road mean NO CATTS. Ok that answers my question. Thanks. It looks like I'll just get some new muffs. I want to keep my cats, and the most painless way to get a little more volume would be some new muffs.

What exactly was done to these mufflers? I'm not sure what they looked like before you worked on them.

I have the stock mufflers and an off road x-pipe as well, wouldn't mind making it sound a little deeper. Do you have a video of it sounds now?

Well that was the before picture above and I forgot to take an after picture. The black marks in the picture below are what I cut out. I like the sound for the most part. its a little loud at 35/40mph but is alright at cruising speeds.

So there's nothing left inside? Wouldn't that create a lot of turbulence in the gas flow?

the baffels are still in there they just have holes cut in them now. This was done by another member (Red454) on here first and thats where I got the idea. He has a old thread around here somewhere. Don't know about air flow through them I just wanted a little more noise and this worked for that. It was free so I couldn't beat the price. I caouldn't tell if i lost any or gained any hp or tq by doing this.
