Steeda UDP install questions

I was just wondering if any others had to use an impact wrench like TacoBill did with their Steeda UDP install? He was mentioning in his write up that he had to use the impact on the water pump pulley and crank pulley bolts. Was anyone able to get away without using the impact wrench?

I didn't use an impact wrench for neither, just a breaker bar for the crank bolt, I guess I got lucky, and the water pump bolts I had to snap the wrench quick to loosen though mimicking an impact wrench, but they came off fine lol

Did you use any kind of penetrant/lubricant like PB Blaster or Liquid Wrench?

What kind of wrench did you use for the water pump bolts?

No penetrant just put the car in 4th gear and give the breaker bar hell, the water pump bolts just a regular socket with a ratchet and give them quick yanks, I guess it depends on the mileage of the car but everything came off pretty easy and I did it at 30k miles.

Thanks for the feedback......is there any disadvantage to using a little penetrant here?

Great, I will give it a try when I get a chance as I have my valve covers off right now for powder coating.

Thought since I have the rad cover off and the CAI out, I will do my pulley install as well.

I had the same experience as the above poster, just a breaker bar and regular rachet/sockets while in 4th gear.

Oh wait, I did eat 2 cans of spinach chased with a 6pk of beer prior to the install.

With a stick you can do it without an impact wrench. I used one for the crank, but the water pump pully I just added tension ot he belt and used a socket. I used PB Blaster as well.

Yes I did, the factory bolt is a 1 time use. Considering what it is for that's cheap insurance against failure.

Is this install considered fairly easy? I am just learning to do things on my car. I have so far installed the Flowmaster axlebacks, the Pypes offroad H, the Hurst shifter.......changed the springs, swapped out my front grille and removed my valve covers.

How would this job compare to any of the above. And TacoBill's DIY write-ups go a long way too

With what you have done so far a pulley swap will be cake.

Thanks for the encouragement guys! I personally think it might be a little more tricky than the other jobs.......sounds like you have to torque one of the bolts on very specifically according to TacoBill's write-up.

I think Bill may have his car in reverse and consequently needed the impact gun. I will make sure my car is in 4th gear.

Now in terms of breaker bars.....what length did you guys use? I just bought two today and am not sure which one to keep. I got one that is 25" long and another that is only 17" long but it has a ratcheting head which I think is a nice feature.

Quality will vary from one brand to another, but in general, the 25" fixed breaker bar will allow much higher levels of torque than a 17" ratcheting one. Both have their places, but if you keep only one, I'd keep the longer non-ratcheting one.

Is it really worth taking the fan shroud out to do this install?

I'm getting ready to install mine, & I'm not planning on removing the fan. I'm gonna put the car on ramps & use my impact gun for the crank pulley. I'd think the water pump bolts should be fairly easy to get at.
