Thumbs down Steeda tri-ax shifting at high RPMs

I’ve recently installed the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter and for the most part, I’m very happy with it.
I like the precise notchy shifting, and the sound it makes doing so.

however, while I can shift literally with 2 fingers with the car parked.. it’s pretty difficult to do so while on the move.
It feels like I have to force the shifter into gears, especially when going up in gears during spirited driving, or down shifting.

Yesterday at the track, i was shifting from 2nd to 3rd and for some reason it felt as if the gear didn’t go in.. I had to shift it back to neutral and push it back into 3rd.. cost me a good 1.5-2 seconds

Forget about the track.. the main reason I got the steeda tri-ax is to avoid mis-shifting into 3rd.. a problem I had with the stock shifter design.

My gearbox is just fine, and can shift up smoothly in all gears with the stock shifter.

p.s: I’m running the longest throw, as the other settings didn’t feel comfortable.

If you have the nut on the shifter/linkage too tight it will cause it to bind under load. Just snug the nut up and locktite it.

ooooh a sign of hope!
i've tightened them all as much as i could

are you referring to number 1 or 2 on this illustration?

Attachment 24149

furthermore, i just noticed a Tech tip on the Triax instruction sheet saying "variation in the transmission height may cause the shift to be extremely tight and very difficult to move, in this case, use two of the four washers between the rear of the shifter body and chassis, if the problem persists, add the second set of washers"

the washers they're referring to, will go where number 3 in the illustration is.
and i figured since i can move my shifter **** freely when idling, the above case doesn't apply to me.. or does it?

so which way should i go?

Loosen the nut on #1 and just snug it up and then locktite it. I used a 1/8 inch piece of plumbers mat between the rear of the shifter and the floorboard #3 to deaden some of the vibration and then raise the handle up to the top position for easier shifting. I think this will help you out on most or all of your issues.

It seems that all of the aftermarket shifters have vibration issues and I guess that's why MGW has provided lots of sound deadening material in their new shifter kit.

Good luck~
