Steeda pulleys install or trying too

Ok the pulleys will be here tomorrow and I though I would start by removing the old pulleys today. I took every thing out of my way and have a clear shot at the bottom crank bolt. 18mm socket, counterclock wise, 1/2" air impact wrech and still it won't budge. Must have empty the 5.5hp 25 gallon air compressor 10 times and its set at 120lbs. The air gun is a little old but it still works on everything else. Is there another 1/2" more powerful gun out there?

help????????

Darrel - that's frustrating......I actually removed the crank bolt on my '05 using my 1/2" Torque wrench....the lenght of the bar really helped with leverage - couldn't budge it with my regulary 1/2" ratchet. Was a struggel though as I had to put the car in gear and crank on the parking brake and the crank still wanted to turn.....

Here is a write-up. Try a big torque wrench a gun won't always get it.

^^^ Me too. Not trying to make you feel stupid but do you have your transmission in 1st gear so the engine can't turn?

+1 on the breaker bar. you could also use a metal pipe and slide it over the breaker bar for some extra leverage. Try some penetrating oil as well.

Forget the airwrench. Any 1/2" torque wrench will provide sufficient leverage with the car in gear and the parking brake on. Hope you got the right pulley puller! I believe it's the Chrysler puller that works liek a charm, once you get the arms aligned properly. Good luck

From what I read before, you want the car in a high gear (4th or 5th, not 1st) if you can (if it's a manual). I know from my own experience, in 1st I was still able to turn the engine over by hand and move the car a little. I used a manual impact thing I borrowed from my neighbor, but we got it off eventually.

Before I try the impact gun I did try the big breaker bar. The car is in 5th gear and the crank is not slipping or turning over. I've been spraying Nut buster on it for 2 days.

The Mechs here at work told me to heat up the bolt, they are thinking red locite was used??????? I'm worried that I might snap on the bolt head and then I'm F&*#$%.

I'll try again in the morning

In all seriousness, good luck man. All I used was a torque wrench that's about 1.5' long. Hope you get'er done.

Hold on there partner!! Do not heat that bolt. First off the stock pulley has a rubber center that will melt and be ruined. Second, there is a front oil seal around the snout of the crankshaft that will be the next thing that you will trash. Ford does NOT use locktite on that bolt. No reason to. Be careful. Take it to the dealer if you need too. P.S. Lefty loosey- righty tighty!!

1st gear and apply the parking brake will work just fine.

Thanks for the infor. I'll make sure I don't heat the bolt. I looked up Harbor Freight tools they got a 25" 1/2" breaker bar or a hi power 1/2" impact wrench I'll probably get in the morning.

I'm from South Bend

I also used my impact wrench at first and it didn't budge. Went to the breaker bar (about 2' long), still no luck. Finally put the 3' tubular handle of my floor jack over the breaker bar and that worked perfectly. Also worked for installation per Steeda instructions (the final torque sequence is pretty tough).

Didn't try spinach, though.
