John, what after all this is the HP to the flywheel? What does 270hp = to the fly?

318hp using 15% losses (typical usually)
I think I'm going to start a thread to settle this loss issue.
Well, first off the 270hp was on a Mustang dyno.....they said that equated to about 290rwhp on a Dynojet. So dyno #'s can be skewed and you should always ask what type people used when they give their quotes....Also, I'm running an automatic so I'm losing a little more then the manual owners. The 290rwhp equates to about 340hp at the flywheel.....not too bad with a few easy mods in my opinion....Take out the auto tranny and the 4.10 gears and it would be even more on the dyno....the gears are well worth any hp loss in my opinion though....
John, thanks for the info from the two detailed posts on the first page.
Do I understand correctly that if I purchase the Xcalibrator and apply the tune to my stock GT I should see a 25 HP gain, but If I have other mods then the tune won't give an additional 25 gain on top of the other mods?
I can see that being possible for the intake since it affects the airflow and who knows what the computer is doing on its own to adjust for that. It doesn't make sense though for the pulleys since that is a mechanical gain from eliminating parisitic losses. I don't think that anyone has done a before and after on the same day with just a pulley swap though, so it's hard to say what kind of a gain to expect for this particular car model. Although you recommend the intake instead of the pulleys, my intuition tells me that the pulley swap should be independent of the tune. However, if all we needed was intuition then it sure would be a lot cheaper.
About the Xcalibrator: Is that 25 HP gain from a tune that comes with the Xcalibrator from SCT or was it tweaked by your tuner on the dyno? Or both? I'm swapping in 4.10s in the next week or two and I'm trying to decide if I should get an Xcalibrator at the same time. My Ford dealer wants $70 to adjust my speedo after the swap. If I can have the gears swapped and then fix the speedo and add 25 HP to boot by myself for $350 then that's a no-brainer.

Not without mods Johnny. Most of the bone stock manual GT's are making around 255 on the Mustang dyno and around 271 on the dynojets...As far as Jamie's question, I would forget the 70.00 to the dealer and just pay the extra cash for the SCT tune....it is strange not to know what the best combo is for creating hp gains on this new car....at least you guys know what I went in with after the mods (254rwhp), and prior to the SCT tune. That figure coming with the auto tranny again for clarification....hope this info is beneficial for somebody...happy new years guys!
Actually need to make some corrections :
First Tune: 23 hp gain
- 20 from tune
- 3 from exhaust
Second Tune: 15 hp gain
- I would say 15 from MMR intake
The pullies gained almsot no power from my point of view. So, if you want HP - they dont seem to add much. BUT, where I felt the pullies (right after install and driving the car) is TORQUE. The pullies can be seen in torque.
I dont recommend the C&L kit at all. They are lying to us, you cannot get gains without a tune. Go with the MMR or Steeda - I receommend the mMR beucase of the heat shield plastic tuning they are soon to be released.
If you want to waste $500 get some exhaust too. I like, no love, mine from the sound and looks - but they add no power at all. heck, some even loose power. Here is what I have seen and read to be the best investments so car : IN this order of install:
Intake Kit +++
Gears ++
Tune ++++
Underdrive pullies +
Just my 2cents

Notice that they report the 26+ rwhp gain after the reflash. Isn't a near 23+ rwhp reported with a stock cai and a reflash with the XCalibrator? What a crock of sheeot....read between the lines. $250 bucks for a marginal gain.

Stock tune (SCT equip & Dyno ~ $500) = 23 rwhp
Steeda CAI and SCT tune (~$760) = 26 rwhp
Someone would have to convince me why I should pay an extra $260 to get ~3 rwhp. That would be $86/hp.
Only buy exhaust if you want a new sound - not for the HP. I was dissapointed wiht the HP stats - but if I had to do all over again, I would have bought the same exhaust. I love the looks and the sound. But, as far as hp - its not worth it.
Now, headers might change the whole gains - but that remains to be seen and I dont want to be the one who spend 1K on them only to be dissapointed again

Agreed Bryan, exhaust was at best a break even or very nomonial hp gain....it was all about the sound, as most of us have heard accounts that the exhaust switch can hurt dyno #'s depending on what setup you buy....the pulleys certainly don;t seem to have jumped the hp much if any as you stated also....The tune and the intake seem to be the best two bang for the buck additions that the two of us have witnessed....I can only assume that a stock exhaust setup w/o pulleys added would keep up with ours just fine as long as they had the gears, tune, and MMR intake....just thought it was worthwhile to post this so that those who may not have lots of extra money could get some good advice and possibly save themselves 600-800 bucks on exhaust and pullies if true HP is all you are after immediately anyway...the pulleys will give ya a bit of torque and the exhaust will give you a nice sound, but may be best added after the tune, intake, and gears have already been saved up and paid for. The tune seems to accomplish much of the hoped for hp gain and it may be wishful thinking wasting money on the other things after the fact....Just my .02 guys......later....

Yes, the tune did require much tweaking...mine spent 1 hr. and 50 min. on the dyno to get it right and Bryans made a number of passes in his first tune attempt also making changes to perfect it....it certainly isn't just a one flash to reach perfection type of deal.....that's not a bad thing either as our tuner, Andre Terranaova, went above and beyond trying to squeeze out every last hp he could...I would highly recommend him to other Houstonians.....in regards to the lowering question, I originally planned to just add 18 or 19" wheels to get the desired effect as I was worried about the ride quality....After riding in Bryan's a few weeks ago I was pleasantly surprised that I really couldn't notice any difference so it's very possible that I will do some lowering to get the appearance I want afterall...thought that info would be useful as I was able to verify that the Steeda springs are quality and worth the cash. Good choice on that setup Bryan!.
..anyway, everybody have a safe new years.....I'm out...

First off,many thanks to John and Bryan for their Pioneering efforts on mods and the SCT tune. This may not add any thing right away, but I'm going to a "Dyno" day in the spring with some buds. I'm going to baseline stock(With pullleys), Then install Steeda CAI,pull, then SCT flash then pull for the 3rd time to see the resuts. This might fill in a few blanks in our database if they are still needed. B)

I would say that the Gt's must be making more like 315-320 from the factory though...I think Ford rated these cars fairly low from all the #'s I've seen...

John's and Bryan's cars are setup very well, and they're picking and choosing their way through the up-and-coming available mods. Both these cars are most awesome!!!
