Thumbs down

I'm considering purchasing the Steeda CAI. Anyone have it? If so, does it deliver? I'm going to be using the XCaliberator 2 on it, so I hope to gain around 30 HP. Any information/opinions on this CAI would be greatly appreciated!

169stang is running that setup and it has been very successful for him. He was the first TMS member to run in the 12's

I was at 294 rwhp with this setup, including UD pullies. You'll definately notice a difference. Put some slicks on, have your suspension correct, some great weather, high 12's are possible. Consistant low 13's. I have no complaints what so ever with this mix.

I went to the dyno with just the Steeda CAI and a Diablo tune and got 286 rwhp and 306ft lbs rwtq. Yea, I like the Steeda.

That sounds about right-the pullies adding 5-10 rwhp.

Jeez, it just looks like a filter, filter enclosure, and MAF....pricy as heck for $300 when it still uses the stock corrugated rubber pipe...

There are cheaper options out there, and ones for the same ballpark that replace the whole intake tract.

That said, I generally like Steeda stuff.

It's in the MAF housing, not the tubing...in my opinion. If I could, I would love to combine the K&N tubing with the Steeda MAF/filter. I would like to change the tubing though, to clean it up. It does cost a bit more than some of the others, but it did provide the gains and has never fallen off or needed tape, glue, additional parts bought from home depot, so on and so on. It installed very easily and hasn't been a issue at all. I haven't heard of any issues from anyone else either.

I have been talking with SHM about their 380hp stang they did the story on. Anyone besides me notice that they had a Steeda CAI and a C&L intake tube on that car? Hummm.... So, just for giggles I bought a C&L intake tube. It took a bit of imagination to get it mated up with the Steeda CAI, but it is on there. I have not made it back to the dyno to compare the two. But there must be some positive results or I doub't they would have done it. I asked them why they did not use the C&L CAI. All he said...and I quote... the Steeda breaths better.

I am still waiting for them to get back with me about the way they have everything mounted. They sent me pictures, and the match right up. Not quite that way in the real world though.

I spoke with K&N about getting their tubing. I was told it'll never be sold seperately due to some bologne about an emissions sticker. I'm glad we don't have emissions around here. K&N can keep their tubing. There is a local guy here that is supposedly going to make this tubing in carbon fiber. My only reservation about the C&L is the tubing being aluminum (heat sponge). If it takes much longer, I may go with the C&L tube.

Yea, I hear ya. I just thought I would give it a shot to see if it truly made any difference. Got a buddy in Kansas that owns a metal polishing business, sent it to him to get it all purdyed up (he also polishes magnesium if anyone wants their cam covers done ). Throw it on and do a dyno or two to see what it truly does. Anything has to be better than the stock one that is sitting RIGHT ON a hot water hose. I took a piece of pipe insulation and put it between the intake and the hose. Was quite surprised at how much the intake was rubbing the hose.

I can not add any insight to the above.....Only that my SOTP meter is "Real Good". I have had no issues at all except that occasionally the engine seems to "Hang" near 6000 Rpm. for just a second. I detect no pinging, and I'm running the supplied SCT 93 tune.

I got the Steeda CAI and the SCT tune that I got from them. Easy to install and haven't had a problem with it. I can't tell you how many horses it added because I have no dyno close to me, but I can feel the difference. The car idles now 900 - 950 RPM and I wrote steeda and they said it was normal. All I can say is that it's a top notch product and I'm happy with it.
