Squeaky brakes - help
I have Hawk HPS brake pads and they make a lot of noise.
It makes the most noise under mild braking pressure. Under heavy braking, there is no noise. It's so loud that I tend to brake really hard so I dont hear them.
Will changing the rotors help eliminate the noise?

That is natural for those types of pads. They are designed for hard braking and are noisier than OEM pads. Check out Stop Tech's web site for extensive detailed articles explaining brakes and their function and design characteristics.
I just switched back to stock pads for the same reason. Well, that and the additional brake dust. Mine did not make a single noise for 1000 miles so I had posted several times that they were totally quiet. Then, all of a sudden I had loud squeel when light braking that would not go away.
I have been going back and forth with what brake pads to buy and everyone keeps recommending the HPS pads but I have HAWK pads on my F-150 and they squeal to hell so i really did not want to use HAWK pads again. Everyone said no squeal with the HPS so I was going to give them a try. Looks like I am back to square one with choosing a brake pad. By the way the HAWK pads on my truck do the exact same thing Light braking they squeal to hell.

Here is my experience with Hawk HPS pads so far. I've put over 1000 miles on the pads. Stock rotors had no additional noise, R1 Concepts Drilled/Slotted Rotors no additional noise, GMS Dimple Slotted/Slotted rotors screamed like a banshee, rotorpros drilled and slotted no additional noise.
I have HPS with GMS rotors. No screaching just the clicking from the dimples.
All you can do to try and help is this.
Get up to about 35MPH and make 3-4 slow stops. Then get up to about 45MPH and do 3-4 medium hard stops. What you want to do is get the brake good and hot. You should have them hot enough to begin smelling them in fact. Once you have completed these steps park the car and let the brakes cool down completely.

I have never had good luck with Hawk products. My recommendations would be to first try to put a small amount of lube on the end clips that the pads fit into. Next use some CRC’s disk brake quiet on the back of each pad. If that doesn’t work, try chamfering the ends of the pads with a belt sander. Keep in mind that this was a temporary fix for me and when the noise popped up again I threw the Hawks in the trash and purchased some Porterfield R4S pads. A much much much better pad, but it comes at a price (50 bucks more than the HPS). Currently I’m trying out some BPMM pads that seem to be almost as good as the Porterfields, but at half the price. It’s to soon to give an endorsement, however when I get a few more miles on them I’ll let you know.
Good Luck!!
Good Luck!!
Mine were great as far as noise went. But after a year driving on them they sound like a school bus when stopping. Only on light stops.
And I hate the brake dust. After Mondays track event I think i will install the stock pads back on.
