Smoothest Sounding Exhaust

I have an off road X pipe and flowmaster axle back. It sounds good but it sounds angry. I don't know what the best word is to use. However I'm looking for a smoother sound. Something not so raspy but I want to keep the off-road x pipe.

Would the Pypes Mid muffler system be the way to go or something like magnaflow?

It took Magnaflows with my longtubes to tame my exhaust and make me happy. Some will tell you to add resonators and that will also work. Bottom line is you need to put a little backpressure back in the system to take the edge off of it. Resonators or a good baffled muffler like the Magnaflows will get you there.

getting rid of the x pipe and going to a h will clean that sound up.

I'm not necessarily sure I agree with this statement.

However, I'm with Scott if you are looking to reduce the HARSH exhaust noise you will be better off installing resonators or going with a catted midpipe.

Another option is to add high flow cats. I have an O/R prochamber. While I do like the sound I would like to clean it up a little as well as clean up the exhaust smell.

Well your 01 Cobra was a 4V engine and the SLP powerflo's are baffled or chambered mufflers. Apples and oranges to what you have now.

Use the stock mufflers.

That system is one I've been considering but I've heard they can have poor fitment. I am pretty **** about having things fit right. Price wise they aren't bad at all.

That is a correct statement. I had fitment issues, and the band clamps they sent me were broken. I asked for new ones and they said they would send them out but never did. I had a local shop adjust the hangers where the stock mufflers would be because they were hitting the brackets. Also, the X-pipe and MM system has no support for the exhaust from the headers or manifolds all the way back to the axle, the pipes just hang there. I love the sound, but the quality could be better.

Yeah, it drones from 2500-2800 rpm but only at half to full throttle. I might put some mufflers on at the end to see if that helps.

drone doesn't bother me at all, its the raspiness and crackling that annoys the crap out of me.

there should be hangars for the mid pipe, atleast my mac xpipe had them. bummer the quality sucks, really turns me off to even thinking about buying them.

Stock mufflers or Borlas with a prochamber and possibly high-flow cats. The 3V is a funky sounding engine as-is

I am wishing my V6 sounded smoother. I have duel Flowmasters, but it sounds angry too. Has anyone put Bullitt units on a V6?

I just dealt with this issue last week. I have Pype Offroad H pipe and flow master 40's. The sound was insanely loud and muscle car-ish, buttttttttttttt, it was RASPY as hell. Sounded great until it hit about 2500+ rpms, then it was like a ricer was revving up next to me.

I got Vibrant 18" resonators and had them installed. it fixed the rasp 100%, muffled the sound down a bit, but it really sounds awesome. It could be a bit louder and id be okay with it, but its such a smooth clean sounding roar now.

Get them, you wont be disappointed. They are about $62 each.
