Small Dent In My New Spydershaft

Hello everyone!

I received my new Spydershaft today. The box was in good condition but I discovered what I would call a small dent in the shaft near the end that bolts to the differential. It's pretty small, even so, is that something I need to be concerned about or can I use it as it is?

Regards,
Jon

You don't want your shaft being out of balance...... I would contact him and see what he recommends.

If it was balanced with that dent, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Just re-read TacoBill's write-up on the Coast he installed. In it he said his first driveshaft arrived with a small but smooth dent in it and Coast flat out rejected it for use.

That was true Jon. The Tech/Engineer that I spoke to there said not to use it because the dent has compromised the balance of the shaft.

You paid for a defect free driveshaft, don't settle for less.

Bill,

Would you recommend that I just send it back or talk to Ron first?

Talk to the Ron (owner?) first and get his take on it. Not sure if he has to give you a RMA before sending it back. If he will take it back, maybe he can arrange UPS to come pick it up.

Whatever the case, I hope you get this issue resolved quickly. I know I was getting impatient waiting for my replacement shaft to arrive... but it was worth it when it finally came.

If he will take it back? Since it has a dent that doesn't belong there, why wouldn't he take it back?

I took another look at it and I can hear what sounds like sand sloshing about inside the shaft. Not good.

First time I have heard about any defects on the Spydershaft. I would talk to Ron and get his take on this. Save the box and take pictures of the D/S.

I can't speak for Ron or make calls on their engineering. I can only tell you what I experienced with Coast Driveline.

With that said, had I went with Spydershaft and received it with a dent, I'd want it replaced.

+1, plus take some measurements, especially the depth.

i would just call them and work it out with them, i would not want anything that i paid good money for to be dented even if they tell me it is ok to still use i will tell them that i want another one to be on the safe side

just make sure to take lots of pics, and tell them EVERYTHING about the DS you received, the sloshing sound, the dent, condition of box, everything

GGGGGRRRRR! I didn't spend $504 to have any issues. I expect to take the device out of the box and put it on the car.

Just my luck! I went with the Spydershaft simply because of the positive feedback I was hearing/reading and I get the apparent first defect.

You and me both!

But, I paid a bit more than you...

Seriously, it's not their fault, it's the bafoons that work for UPS (if it was a shipping damage).

Great! Filing a claim with UPS ought to be fun.

You don't have to do a thing except repackage the driveshaft. The sender (Spydershaft in your case) initiates all the paperwork. In my case, Coast couldn't send my replacement out until UPS received the damage unit.

That is a relief. After a crappy day at work I was looking forward to spending time in the garage putzing with my car, instead I've got to wait a bit longer. UUUGGGHHH! I need a drink!

Thanks for the advice, you guys are terrific!

Jon, Ron lives down the road from me and I can tell you he takes his driveshaft product seriously, as well as anything in his emerging prototypes (it's kind of cool to see the prototypes and engineering that goes into these things). Just give him a call and/or send a note. If you get no immediate answer it's because he's up or down the east coast racing somewhere, most likely. You may have a delayed response of a day or two, but have a little patience if you can--he's a top notch guy.

John
