I was just wondering if they were illegal due to the fact that they do not have mufflers, anyone know?

If they were illegal, I doubt SLP would be allowed to sell them. Most likely the only trouble you'd have with the law would be violating noise ordinances.

Probably depends on your state laws. I wanted the loudmouths, but Virginia requires a muffler. Got the Flowmasters instead after seeing the comparison in last month's MM&FF. They are awesome and plently loud enough.

I want a set, but I want to hear them in person first. I'm in the LA /San Gabriel Valley area [east of Pasadena]. I just can't feel good about listening to them through computer speakers.

Anyone out there nearby have a set?

All they have to say is "For Off Road Use Only" Off road X and H pipes are illegal as are most decorative lighting kits and plenty of people have them

So true. I believe New York law says something like "any modification to the factory exhaust is prohibited". So when you head over to Midas, the multi-piece set [which varies from the factory set up on most cars] is technically illegal.

And more importantly, like you said: Tons of the mods we make violate the letter of the law. How many people [especially trucks] have tires sticking out of the fenders? How many have lowered /raised their vehicle to illegal levels? Aftermarket too-bright headlights or driving lights? Changed taillight lenses? Tinted windows too dark? On and on..

Ok! The louder the better. Sweet!!! I am very worried that the state will pass the noise ordence and they will not let me purchase and install them. We have ours ordered and should be here in few days.

I've had mine on for two weeks and I love them but they are LOUD. My neighbor has already complained, I figure if he doesn't like them he can by me a new one and have it insttalled I just coast in and out of the neighborhood, it has a really deep rumble when you first start it up, like the rpms rev for a couple of seconds then at idle it's pretty calm.

That would not be problem here. We are a car street if you know what I mean. Three of us are restoring cars. One has a Deisel truck, very loud. He wakes me up on sudays at 7am. It's ok. and our closest friend has a old Corvair. No pipes, no even a full body. Very loud, it is ok. We just want to be a little loud. Like the great muscle cars and the race track. I just love the smell and sound of these cars.

We got our pipes today. I came home and they were on the porch. Boy did that make him happy. I called him at work you would have thought it was christmas. He said he was coming home right then. When he came through the door he was singing, "Guess what am doing tomorrow?" Yea, putting on the pipes. he yelled across to his buddies to come see. And of course they did. My son Tyler 15 called all his buddies to tell them the news. Can't wait to hear the rumble.....
He said after the pipes are on we should get another 50 horses. He ordered the tune for Michagin today too. He asked if I was mad, and I told him all I wanted was a Starbuck frappachino. He smiled.

So how'd the install go?
BTW, you won't get 50 hp from just SLP pipes.

I'm still a firm believer I got some low end torque out of mine. I'll happily trade that for a small hp loss in the high end.

That torque increase feel doesnt exist no matter what the setup on the '05, you cant feel 1hp or 1ft/lb. I think your seat-of-the-pants meter needs to be callibrated.
