Wow....suddenly I was 16 again...My 66' 289 with tri-y's and cherry bombs!

Hardly notice any drone. My local muffler shop did the install (told me over and over it will not pass inspection without mufflers tho :bang: ) cost me $40.00 (cheap enough). They aligned it in about 5 mins (this is the part everyone says takes forever in the driveway to get perfect). Fired it up and all 4 mechanics did the guy "grunt".

Sounds like an "old school" big block....raspy and mean....

Do you have to get your car inspected each year? I thought you would have had 2 to 3 years for smog inspection? It's 3 years out here in California for new cars. And I am assuming you mean smog inspection!

No...our state (NC) has yearly vehicle inspections. "They" say it keeps us from charging for city / county stickers....whatever. God Forbid you don't get it inspected...You get a warning when it 1 month late...then at 6 months late it's a $250 fine and impound of vehicle if you do not respond and get it inspected. Our state has VERY high tech inspection equipment that stations have to buy. The unit goes online in Raliegh while the car is being inspected. The upload real time data from your car and it is held on file. Now, this doesn't remove the human element from "bending" the data....don't ask...I ain't gonna tell. My "bud" says as long as the emissions are good he can "probably" get me inspected...but we'll see....I don't want an illegal car (insurance compnay would LOVE that if I had a wreck).

Supposedly the SLP Loudmouth are "50 STATE LEGAL for Emmissions"....we'll see.

What exactly is the law in California concerning no mufflers ?

I live in L.A. and I was considering Loudmouth's but now I'm a little concerned.

mufflers are not part of the emissions in California. You can be fined for it being too loud however and your not allowed to replace oem mufflers with louder mufflers but thats pretty subjective and I have yet to see it be inforced, with exception to the really loud fart can mufflers, usually when they bust street racers.

I just ordered mine up last night and looks like it will take about a week for them to get here. But that is exactly what I am looking for an "old school" big block sound!!!

I can't wait to get them.... did you notice any performance increases or decreases???

I am in california and you will have no problems with the SLP kit..I have had numerous cops give me a "thumbs up" with regard to the sound...As long as you are not obnoxious with it you will have no issues

If you have ever ridden in a big block muscelcar setup old school (big long Hooker Headers attached straight to "Cherry Bomb" mufflers) then you will definetly like the SLP Loudmouth. It gives out a Huge Growl as the RPM climbs....let off and you get that "blat...blat...blat" that makes you want check and see if you weren't magically transported back into that old Chevelle, Coronet, or Mustang that you had in your teen's or twenties (for some of us of old farts!). Nobody has talked about the nice booty vibration you get either...adds to the nolstalgia....you can feel the car around you.

My butt-o-meter says there is some performance gain...but that might just be suggestive due to the HUGE increase in smile factor this gives...

Got the SLP's and love em! was worried they'd be too loud myself but now I'm thinking of removing the cats to make it louder. It's still not as loud as last years with the flowmaster setup

When I was still in NY, my Turbo Regal never had mufflers [full pipes all the way to the back], but still had the cat and the car passed the yearly safety inspection without comment. They are more worried there about leaks in power steering, the condition of your brakes, whether all of the lights work, etc.

I was so surprised that no safety inspection is required in California, but that's why you see cars with tires worn through, on the side of the freeway with collapsed ball joints [or no wheel at all] and the like.
