I just installed the K&N air charger and it is great. I got the K&N/Predator kit from RPM outlet. I took the car out for a ride right after installing the K&N before using the predator and it was a big improvement, no engine lights and lots of power. Although when I did the 87 performance tune, I got a nasty ping at about 4000 RPM with WOT. I immediately put the backup tune back and the problem stopped. I called RPM outlet, who was extremely helpful. It turns out that the ping is because I took out the HC filter when I first got the car and then didn't put it back in when I installed the K&N. RPM outlet is going to make me a custom tune without the HC filter.
Overall I am very pleased with this purchase and I'm sure I will get a good tune from RPM Outlet. If you have any questions about the installation just let me know.

I just noticed that after I added the K&N that I am now getting black soot on my exhaust tips. I have magnapacks so it shows up really easy on the polished tips. I wiped it off and drove the car again and there was more there. It did not do this before the install. Does anyone know if this is normal?

doesnt seem to be the K&N, Had mine on for about 1000 miles now, no heavy black soot, gotta be the tune ya got..... I'd make sure your fuel/air ration are even and not running too rich or lean, that could be the problem....

Got the K&N, with the HC in and no tune and about 450 miles on it. Just got back from a 200 miles cruise on I-81 and pushed it - no soot or I should say no more than I ever had.
