I've been racking my brains about this question for weeks and I'm really torn about making a decision.

I love my car, but I'm ready for something better/more powerful than what I have now. I'm either going to spend big dough on a twin screw supercharger, tune, and new exhaust to bring me up to 500HP...or I'm going to trade-in my car (see mods below) and spend big dough for a brand new 2013 GT Premium with the Track Pack.

Even though I'm the only person who can decide what will make me happy, I'd still like to know what you would do if you were in my position and could afford either option.

I have owned a 2012 5.0 with 3.73s and goodies and I have owned two supercharged 4.6's. The 5.0 was very fast and felt more wild then the 2005 with a saleen 475hp kit on it. The 5.0 felt slower then the 2007 with the ford racing 550hp whipple kit. For daily use I would say new 5.0 mustang. If its a weekend fun car get a whipple and call it good.

I have to say I have thought the same thing for quite a while and wonder on a daily basis the exact same thing. My mind changes nearly daily about the whether I really a new one.

Here is my thinking, I still absolutely love my ride. Bought it brand new and drove I right off the showroom floor with my father when we searched up and down the east coast for months back in early 05 when they were still like finding a unicorn.

So in that respect my history with the car is pretty sweet. I'm not sold on the body style still. Do I like it - yes. From some angles it looks great. But I still love the 05-09 style more, even tho it has the plastic dash and a 5-speed and all the other comments you can throw at it vs. a new one.

The last part of my decision to stick with mine is a financial decision. The car will get somewhere between $10K and $13K for it on a good day. For me, I can't see myself trading in, going and buying another new car or even slightly used stang for between $25K and $35K, and needing spend an additional $350-600 a month (depending on terms and extra down payment) for the car. Financially it just doesn't make sense long term for me. I'm 30 years old and saving for a house and my options are one of three:
- keep current stang as its paid off and continue saving for home
- trade in current stang buy new stang and take significantly longer to save to buy home (probly add a few more years to that since I make good money but not so much that I can go for both at the same time a maybe later in my career)
- or three, trade in stang and have home sooner (but I'd rather try to keep it long term and i am not hurting in the least and feel very fortunate in that regard) but I already live In a kickass place in the meantime.

When I look at it this way, to me it doesn't make sense to get a new one. I've always felt that having a home should be first and foremost (which I broke that rule when I went and my car in the first place when I was 22) but it was a compromise I was willing to make. I'm not willing to do that now as I want a nice place of my own and as I get older, my priorities changed and continue to change.

I feel like its so much more than quick decision of I want this or that. I say keep it, be able to mod it as you like, and focus on other things in life cause you already have a kick *** car that is a blast to drive even if it isnt the fastest and most up to date. But hey that's just looking at it from my point of view. Maybe you make $300k and can support all these things at once. Good luck in your decision and either way I'm sure you will be happy. I tend to look at my decisions long term but don't forget you can always sell things quickly and change any situation - it's more for what is right for you.

If you have the disposable income it is probably better from a financial standpoint, to go with the new car. You'll never recoup the full cost of the modifications to the old car, if you ever decide to sell it. If that is of no concern to you....and you really love your current car, then modify it and enjoy it!

 

I made a similar decision a year and a half ago and I went with the supercharged option. I like the 05-09 body style more than the currant body style and 5k, Roush M90, CAI, gauges, tune and all, on a car that I didn't have a payment on made sense. Plus I'll be better off if I decide to buy a 2015.

It all comes down too what you want and can afford now and down the road.

 

Go the way I intend to, I supercharged and modded my car,2008 Mustang GT ,now Im selling it to get a 2013 and Im gonna install nitrous so when you want some extra power just flip a switch....

 

I think you should trade it in. Others have made the point about about the warranty and improved interior. I think the exterior is better and the ride and quietness of the cabin just give the car a more refined feel than the previous model. 2013 tail lights are amazing too.

Keep it in my opinion, the 05-09 is the last real muscle body style to me, I love our years because the body lines are so defined and unrounded, I'm still trying to get used to the rounded back and what not in the new stangs, but thats just my opinion

 

I would go with a slightly used 2010 gt500, preferably a 2011 if you can find one that's not too pricey

 

If you can't afford a GT500 than a 450 to 500 rwhp for under $4000 makes more financial sense than a 2013 and is faster than the 2013.

 

If I owned my Stang or didn't mind having a payment I would get a 5.0! I do LOVE my GO Stang but the new one's are SO sweettttt.... But than again in my perfect world I would keep my car and pass it onto my boy's. Keep her in the family.

 

I feel your pain, I'm in the same delima. Full bolt on ,cams, and 3:73. All need is SC. I also have my eye on a 2012 red 5.0. Only downfall I see in the trade in is the start of new car loan. Unless your paying cash of course.
