I got a B&M shifter for my b-day in November from an ex girlfriend that I no longer am on speaking terms with so it's no returnable. After doing a search, I saw MaverickMLFD371 posted about the bolt coming off the bottom and getting stranded. A few others chimed in and said it happened to them too. Are you guys satisfied with the B&M solution of loctite and 15 ft/lb? I especially would like to hear MaverickMLFD371's opinion because he raved about the shifter in several threads. I have the older instructions that don't mention the thread locker or 15 ft/lbs. I would like to use it because I have it in hand but I just have some reservations.

I wouldn't sweat it. All the shifters are prone to the same problem.

Sell it on eBay. I think she wants you on the side of the road too!

Sell it.

Yeah on second thought, that shifter might be jinxed. Sell it in the For Sale forum.

I've thread-locked the bolt and torqued it to 15lbs and the sucker has not moved, I beat the shifter a little bit when I torqued it to 15 lbs a few days hee and there and checked under the car periodically for the bolt to see if it untorqued and it didnt, still snugged nice and tight. It seems B&M has resolved the issue with the bolt and I'm still pleased with the shifter and the way it feels. Nice and tight, no noise and snugs right into gear everytime, just the way it did when I first took it out of the box. I'm not selling it.

So if you have the old shifter, just do yourself a favor, go to the auto part store and get yourself a small $.99 tube of thread-lock, go under the car, unbolt the bolt, put the thread-lock on the bolt and torque that sucker to 15 lbs. Now that you are aware of the problem and you have the fix for it, just go ahead and fix it.

The B&M shifter blows. It's a bad design. The only thing I like is the isolated stick and pivot bearing, shifting was clean.

You will hear several noises you didn't hear before if you install it, i.e. - studs in floorpan rubbing against shifter plate.

Get a Hurst or even a Tri-ax (although I hear it has the same bad design issue).

Hey, I just tell it like it is.

After what happened to you I'm surprised you would even consider re-installing it.

I'm sure he does. From what he said about the way you handled the situation is one reason why I feel it is still an excellent company....just not that particular product.

And thats why I'm keeping it. I got the fix for the shifter, why am I going to go out and buy another $200 shifter if the one had a small defect. Now if the scenario was something serious happened, that my transmission literally broke or something happened inside the transmission, then I would be furious, then I would sell the B&M. But it just disengaged from the tranny linkage. Yea it kinda sucked it happened in rush hour traffic. But I'm still satisfied with it, sitll great feeling, no noise, just nice short firm shifts.
