Nothing. The short throw gives you a different feel and "faster" shifts for racing. Alot of them claim "never miss 3rd gear".

It is very vague in its feel and I have had problems when down shifting from 5th gear to 4th... the shifter gets lost whenever I try to go from 5th to 3rd. The factory shifter in my 97GT was much better and it wasn't that good. If you ever shifted an old tranny back in the day with a Hurst on it you would want throw this one out. It flat sucks. The Hurst shifter I had on my 72 Gran Torino was much better. It was silk smooth and it was spring loaded to make your 2nd to 3rd flawless every time! Gotta love not missing a shift.

The GT/CS at the dealership had a funky trans, I had trouble going from 4 to 5 due to how much reach there was.

"All of these aftermarket shifters" is a pretty generic statement- no disrespect meant. You're right specifically however in some cases, such as B&M and Hurst- that's why I wouldn't buy or recommend either one of those.

I just dont like the stock shifter its a little clunky compared to sticks I've had in the past. As far as I know there havent been any or many problems with the Steeda Tri-ax or the Pro 5.0.

The one I tried was as smooth as 70 vintage truck shifter and only a little better at finding gears. It had a much bit shorter throw.

On the Tri Ax and Pro 5.0's do you see that funky looking angular drilled shift lever or is it hidden by the boot? Also, can you use the stock ****?

According to Steeda on their site, The TriAx accepts the stock ****. Some at Steeda Stampede had a Steeda short throw installed (not sure if it was a TriAx or their less expensive) but it looked the same as stock other then his Steeda shift ****.

The boot hides everything and you can use the stock ****. Can't even tell you have changed shifters just by looking. Don't even have to move your arm off the center console to shift.

all of the shifters are easy to install..

I installed my steeda with my wife's help, just had her hold it up while i put the bolts in, once i put it through the hole in the floor.

I assembled mine in two pieces, the arm and the body (with the two allen screws).. while under the car. It ws quick and painless.

use locktite on the shift linkage and rear mount bolts and the tranny mount bolt...

Where do you live Gary, maybe I can help you install it.? (i'm in Los Angeles)

How are the Steeda poly bushings for the stock GT shifter? Are they worth the effort?
