short throw shifter
#1
I've been considering adding a short throw shifter...anybody have feedback on the subject. I have researched too, too much and have come up scrathing my head. Steeda tri-ax gets good performance reviews, but noticeable noise incrrease, from what I've read. frpp offers a joint effort with Hurst and recently added a B&M model, although the picture magicaly disapeard from the web-site 2 days ago...still listed, but no pic and now, no reference to B&M...Hmm??? I think the B&M has a 30% reduction in throw compared to 40 or 45% with the Hurst and Steeda offerings, but I must say that the B&M looks like a good unit. First hand experience, anyone???

I'd get the Steeda because it has stop bolts...
However, someone should call TTC to confirm the need for a travel limiting device on the shifter. I found the following on their FAQ page. If it is true, the b&m certainly looks like a sweet unit.

I am installing an aftermarket shifter on my TREMEC. Do you have any suggestions?
The major problem with aftermarket shifters is that they have stops on them. To install them correctly, you will have to remove the stops completely. Our transmissions are built with internal stops.

There isn't that much more noise coming from the shifter.

the noise is there all the time. you hear more of the transmission with the shifter. The noise when you shift is just the billet shifter hitting the stop bolts, which is normal and a cool sound. Its hard to explain but the noise isn't really loud but there is some noise.

Yup, the MGW shifter is sweet. That's what I'm waiting on, too. I don't mind shifting noises, but don't want tranny whine noise that the Steeda can introduce (although I've never heard it in person, I can hear mine enough to know I wouldn't want it louder).

I have had a Steeda Tri-ax shifter for 2 months and am very pleased. Nice tight notch shifting. I have not heard any additional tranny noise above the stock shifter absolutely none. You can fly through the gears with the flick of the wrist
Question - The MGW shifter is bent back. I know this is for easy **** accessability, but does it affect te "feel" of the shift compared to the traditional staight shaft shifters? If yes, how so?

It wouldn't affect the feel. You can treat it as straight for analysis.
That's shifter is for a non remote app, btw. Should MGW produce a shifter for the 2005+ mustang, it may have a straight stick.
