Is there any way to tighten up the bushing on the stock shifter.. The one below the boot. It looks like it fills the area between the shift lever and some steel surrounding it. Looks like the pin that holds the upper half of the shifter is removeable. Does someone sell this bushing? Mine has developed some play now.

Thanks

Yeah I think Steeda sells them. Someone on here replaced them but I forgot who.

I got a Saleen Short shift adapter but haven't installed it yet. Its uses the stock bushings though. Suppose to shorten throw by 26% for $40. I figured for that, what the heck, try it before I spend $300 on a new one.

the bushings are underneath. Energy Suspension has them. they are doing R&D on my car...and already put their bushings on. Shifter feels 10x better.

I put the steeda bushings and the saleen adaptor on. I like both. And they were both easy to install.

The only problem I had with the adaptor is I slide the adaptor all the way onto the bolt. So it touched the arm. But that restricted the backward motion. So I could not shift into 1st, 3rd, or 5th. I slide the adaptor away from the arm a little and it worked fine.

The threadlock said it sets after 30 minutes. I drove after three hours. Stupid link fell off. I had to jack the car up in a parking lot and reset it. Wait the full 24hrs for the threadlock to dry.

Finally - I am not sure why they use thread lock instead of making the bolt longer and using a nut. That would be a less permanent method. Now if I want to do something I have to remove the threadlock - not fun.

Okay.. I think the rubber bushing is called the isolator bushing. From the pics the steeda bushings (2 of em) are underneath the car and just replace the two rubber ones. This slop is where the shifter slips into a metal sleeve. There is an isolator bushing there to dampen vibration... Its just developing too much play now. Does anyone sell that part? Seems so simple to replace I just wish someone sold a poly one or something.

Does anyone have the mustang DVD service manual.. If so is there a breakdown of the shifter. Maybe I can extract a name or part number from it.

You cannot buy any of the shifter parts seperately from ford. I know this sounds crazy. But it is true. I have been to the Ford Dealer about this and you MUST buy the entire shifter assembly! I know you can buy the front rubber bushing kit that attaches to the transmission where the large bolt goes through into the tranny. But the piece you want must be purchased with the entire shifter assembly.
