Shaker hood question.

So I"m going to be trading off the 05 maggy rt and picking up a grabber orange stang soon, figured id so my reading early to plan what I want to do with the car.

So I ran across this shaker hood, read up, and people are saying how it has not "suction" and everything

My question is, why dont we build a sealed off box for the CAI, nearly airtight, forcing all the air to be sucked out the scoop... maby enlarge the tube comming from the shaker to the intake... opinions?

Buy it for a cosmetic mod, not a performance mod no matter what anyone tells you. IF if EVER added ANY power, it would be very minor amount overall. But, they do look good IMO.

Ya, I think they look awsome, I just figured there might be a chance at least to force it to actually work better, and suck down some nice and cool air lol.

Shakers are more aesthetic than performance purposed.

I believe the early models of CDCs Shaker came with a block-off plate for the stock airbox. If I'm not mistaken, they stopped including this part due to the reduced performance that resulted when it was installed.

wow, thanks guys, I was already designing a 3d airtight box in autocad lol!!

I'm amazed it would kill performance, there must be some restriction in the shaker that is a lot greater then I though it would be... shame..

wouldnt, in theory, if we didnt restrict it, be a lot better to be sucking down outside cool air then in engine bay hot air?

I've wanted something similar to the stock airbox to cover the filter on my C&L/Shaker setup. I know everyone says no gains but it can't hurt to get the air from the shaker to the intake more efficiently.

Only if sitting in a traffic jam.
When you're jammin' down the road, there's a steady rush of cool outside air running right into the engine bay via the front grille and under the hood, thus purging all the hot air down and out.

Well making it sealed tight is something I started working on this week. So far I have no issues with it (keep in mind this is not the finished product). However I think I am going to figure out a way to increase the size of the air box.

Obviously I couldn't be sure of this without testing it but it looks like with the tight bends in the shaker system and the small diameter of the inlet tube you might be doing more harm than good by sealing it off. With it sealed it has no were else to pull air from if it's starving.

Just out of curiosity, do the factory '03-'04 Mach 1's pull from the shaker scoop only or do they have the conventional air box and pull air from the fender as well?
