Saleen supercharger cost?

I went to Team Ford in Marietta, GA to see about getting a Saleen Supercharger installed on my '05 GT. I thought it was a fairly straightforward and (nearly) simple bolt-on process. the guy at the dealership said it would cost around $10,000 to install the supercharger and do all the engine modifications necessary for the thing to run correctly. He said you had to change out some valves and some other stuff that he didn't really have time to talk about.... what's the skinny on a Saleen supercharger install? Price? Other mods? risk to the engine? (that $10,000 includes the price of the SC)

anybody had this done?

hes trying to rip you. you can install it yourself. i installed the Kenne Bell kit myself and i have no mechanical experience at all. Kenne Bells instructions were simple, straightfoward and there was a picture for every step. took me 11 and a half hours for install and she started up on the first try with no leaks or issues.

pay $4500 for the Saleen blower and $4000 for a forgged internals short block, then get a little head work done for a few hundred, and push 15 PSI... $10K and 600HP.

They are trying to screw you. Either that, or they just flat didn't want to do it so he pulled bogus info out of his butt to try to blow you out of the water. It can be installed in a day and work perfectly with a stock motor on the stock Saleen 4lb pulley. For that matter, you can run an 8lb pulley without too much worry. Just whatever you do, have it tuned by someone that knows what they are doing. The Saleen provided tune sucks.

So two questions. What size pulley are you using to get 15psi? Smallest I have seen was a 3" and that was for 12psi. And I haven't seen overdrive crank pulleys for this setup yet.
Second question. How are you keeping your AIT down at 15psi? I know plenty of folks that are doing battery relocations and Vortech tanks to just keep 10psi at a reasonable tempature.

I think it was a "suggestion" and not a summary of something he had done (or had seen done). But you're right on the limitations to a set-up like that... except isn't the smallest pulley good for like 14psi? I dunno for sure...

Yea, you're right. Jim has 3" and says 13psi on his web site. I stand corrected. I don't look there often. The prices scare me

I put mine in myself

You can put your in yourself without to much trouble just take your time. The instructions from Saleen are easy to read and pretty much idiot proof. I even called their tech line for help and they were very friendly! The car runs great with the Saleen 435hp tune but I may go for the 475hp upgrade. See the picture below.

Hey bro, did you require any special tools? Or just your basic garage mechanic stuff? I'm looking at this route!

I used basic hand tools bought from sears. One of their 175 or 200 piece kits should do the trick and cost about 75 bucks. I used over kill though and bought a 300 piece set for about 200 bucks. You will need a 0-200 inch lb torque wrench, a hot air gun, a radiator pressure kit which I got off of ebay for a total of 50 dollars. I had to get some teflon tape and sealant and hose clamps and little stuff like that but over all I saved about $800 doing the install myself and have a great tool set left over. Plus I took my time and put it in with LOVE and added the stainless steel braiding.

I see in the saleen instructions that you have to send them your computer? Is this true or does the S/C ship with something that includes their tune?

Ok,

just slightly off topic, but what is the ultimate hp potential of the Saleen unit? Lets' say after, some nice forged internals? My goal is someday 11s, but who knows? I'm never satisifed !

I'm not sure about the hp, but as of right now, I think it's pretty much limited to about 14psi due to pulley size restrictions.

I just read through all the Saleen instructions posted above and I would consider myself to be a very mechanically inclined person. If I tried to install that supercharger myself my car would NEVER run properly again. And if it did run I would always be second guessing myself as to if and when it's going to burst into flames ............Wow that's a lot of work.........Somone above wrote that they did an install and aren't mechanically inclined at all........I got news for you buddy, your what we call a prodigy......call up Nascar.......I think you could get a job in their mechanics department no problem........as for me, I'll send it out and have a professional install it when I'm ready.........You have to take out your compuer and mail it to Saleen?????.........Wow........anyone who did this job and got there car running better double check their connections.......sounds like a fire hazzard waiting to happen......Those Instructions are about as clear as mud!!!!!
