Roushcharger........ street legal?

I've been doing some research on the Roushcharger. It says on the website (Not legal for sale or use on pollution-controlled motor vehicles) Does this mean it won't pass inspection?? I mean other than California.....they have crazy emmisions laws out there. I'm in Jersey...

Hey Lee, its Jeff. From what I understand, in reading many install articles, is that the Roushcharger is legal, AND won't void your factory warranty. There is a forum member in Canada, who has a LL GT, and he just recently had a Roushcharger installed, at a Ford dealer. The cool thing, is that the boost is relatively low at 6 psi (I think), and that Ford helped develop it with Roush Racing. The CPU has to be shipped out to Roush to be reflashed, with a program that Ford okays. I'm not sure if the search engine works like it did, but if you go into GT Performance mods, and use the term Roush, in the search box, it may come up. His posts were fantastic, with detailed pics of the install, and everything.

Believe me, even though its around $5600 BEFORE install, this Mod is VERY tempting to me, since it won't void the warranty.

just a quick FYI, the Roush charger DOES void your factory warranty, however Roush has been nice enough to pick up the remaining balance of your 3yr 36k mile warranty on the drivetrain

Yeah,
Original Sin got the Roushcharger installed (5PSI) (415-425hp)

As long as a license person does it, and you fill in the warranty registration card, that part of your factory warranty is picked up by Roush (thats how I remember it)
So being done at a Ford/Roush dealer, all the work can be done there..and its all warrantied (which is why OrgSin made that decision)
Just like him... I agree warranty is important.

The car is a beast to drive.... I am ever so tempted now to get one....
But it is an expensive mod, and not for everyone.

It's street legal, but just like certain exhausts, may not be ok'd in certain areas for emissions reasons... (ie: ok in 49 states)

Still waiting on FRPP Super pack to see what IT puts out

the RoushCharger is covered by the Factory Warrenty provided the work is performed by a Certified Dealership and it covers the S/C, drivetrain and motor - 3 yrs. / 36K - same as the standard warrenty. Wait for some time after purchase to run the S/C, and the Warrenty on it starts at time of install.

They like to install only on a Stock car as well and it is emission legal here in TX. They do offer a Roush offroad exhaust upgrade to their standard exhaust that has to be accounted for by Roush in the program of the ECM.

and Im betting that the Roush (crappy canned) tune is locked so you wont be able to make any changes to it without creating a new one from scratch. That for sure would void a warranty claim.

yes, the tune is locked. They are working on an offering for several tunes to match various pulley sizes and upon installation of any one of these, like other aftermarkets, the Warrenty will be void.

They are also working on development of a 4.6L 3V crate motor "built" to better take the boost at levels above 5 psi. The plan thus far is to market it in 2007. Currently running on some of their development Vehicles.

The S/C is currently set up to make aprox. 425 at the flywheel and is close to the safe limit of the Stock Motor and reason they won't go beyond that for the Warrenty.
