Hey folks. So I'm ready to pull the trigger on my custom "SLP LM's are too expensive" muffler delete job. I've got a local shop that's good to go for $175 installed, but there is one *slight* problem with the tips that I really want (Oval shaped raven's): They have a 2.25" inlet, which, if memory serves, is a quarter inch smaller than the stock piping. So it appears that using these tips will introduce a small restriction in the exhaust flow right at tips (the connecting piping will be 2.5" with madrel bends, so no restrictions there)
Concerns? Quips? Comments? I like the tips a lot, but I don't want to end up with INCREASED back pressure.
Whadya think?

Purple,
1) I wouldn't do it either.
2) Gas flow is compressible. Which means a SHORT restriction is NOT very much of a restriction to gas flow as it will just compress and flow through the restriction faster, then slow down and expand on the other side. This gives very little total restriction to your exhaust. Do you want to test this? Easy! Get four straws. Take one, then cut off a piece about 1" long. Now breath through the 1" long piece. Pretty easy, huh? Now breath through one of the long straws. Quite a bit harder, no? Now take the three long straws and tape them together until you have one, super straw. TRY breathing through that. Can you? At all??? That is compressibility (short straw) versus restriction.
3) I STILL wouldn't put a 2.25" inlet tip on my car!

You can get the SLP Loudmouths for $260 shipped at rpmoutlet.com. I'd go ahead and spend an extra $85 to get a setup that you know is gonna work and gonna look good. I too am shopping around for a shop to make a custom muffer-less exhaust for me... but will only go that route if they have 2.5" mandrel (not crush) bent tubing and the tips that I want.

yeah that's what I'm thinking too. If I'm going to go through all of the trouble, might as well do it right. Besides I've found some cheaper tips online with a 2.5" inlet. Guess I'll just have to be patient. Tried to haggle RPMoutlet down to 240 yesterday (for LM's) but no such luck. heck I may even go with the loudmouth's after all...
Decisions decisions... :bang:

Sorry to change my mind... ... but I found a guy at an exhaust shop to quote me $150 for the "same" setup as the SLP Loudmouths. He said he can do it with mandrel-bent 2.5" pipe and tips that will be a very close, if not exact, match to the SLP tips (I sent him a pic). I'm going to Houston this weekend to visit family and will get him to do it then, since there are no exhaust shops open here near New Orleans, obviously. He said it should take about 30 minutes. After I get the work done, if he does a great job, I'll give you Texans his name and info. Sounds like a good guy, and $150 ain't bad at all.

I wouldn't worry about the 1/4".
Take a look under your car. The exhaust is almost crimped in half at one point. Look just a few inches upstream from where the mufflers clamp into the system.

Well, because of hurricane Rita, my Texas trip was cancelled this weekend. And since I don't know when I'll be heading back over there (might not be until Christmas) I went ahead and ordered the SLP loudmouths. $260 shipped at rpmoutlet.com. Not bad at all.

Tell me about it. Besides the damage to my property, being away from my house for 2 weeks and another 2 weeks without electricity/water, the 2 hurricanes that went through New Orleans and Houston has messed up a number of things with my car. My x-pipe, loudmouth exhaust and electric water pump are all somewhere between Houston and New Orleans. Who knows where they are or when I'll get them.

Also wanted to let you guys know that I caved and bought a set of used Loudmouths (only a day old, guess the TMS member and win a cookie!). Should be here by the end of the week. Can't wait

the SLP's sound different that a custom muffler delete. Both rrobello and I have the same set up, except he has has headers...and we lined our cars up next to an 05 gt with the SLP's.
three different sounding cars. So I would listen to both before you make a decision.
Exhaust clips of our cars can be found at SurfnSoCal.com
