replacement tires

i have a 2006 mustang gt which came w/ the fan style 18" rims..this is a 8.5 in. width..how much wider tires can i go w??i love the bf goodrich's on it now...i want to stay w them..

To be safe, I would just get the same width. If you want wider tires, it is always a better bet to just buy a wider rim.

8.5” rims can fit a 255 tire. Anything wider will not be safe and not recommended by the tire manufacture, even if a shop is willing to sell it to you.

I've ran 275's on 8.5 inch tires before for a long time. No problems, no bulge on where the bead of the tire meets the outer rim. Just my .002
