I was talking to my friend, and he says that there is a place that will rent the tuners for the car......

Has anybody heard of anything like this? I mean, it makes sense to me, rent the tuner, tune it, and return it.

Is there any other way to tune your car for say a CAI other than buying the $400 (or so) tuner? If I take it to a shop, how much would they charge and do any shops even do stuff like this?

Sorry guys, but I am new to american cars, but I would like to get a CAI for my stang, but I don't have the $$$ to drop on the Diablo or the SCT.

that is retarded. b/c each tuner learns your vin #. thats how it restores your factory settings.

Yup, the tuner becomes VIN locked to a certain car. If you are able to rent a tuner, you would have to return your car back to stock before returning the tuner. That woul dbe the only way to unlock the tuner unit.

Otherwise, the tuner would be useless to the next user/renter.

YES....you can use the same unit on multiple cars......As long as the last car it was used on was returned to factory tune. So it would make no sense to rent one out. Of course in the future that might change. A couple guys have their SCT up for sale. That would work as they are probably going to another system.

Uh...Sorry Chris , you already replied.

I guess a reason to rent would be to "test" a unit out to see if you like it. Maybe bring it to a track event or something.

I would guess that SCT or Diablo would not change this. If they did, a person would buy one unit, then pass it around to eveyone in the city. That would be a big money loss to the tuners. This way they can force you to buy one if you you want a tune.
