No, no, no. It's not in the airbox. It's in the intake tube, past the air box and after the MAF sensor, right where you pull the tube away from the airbox after loosening the clamp.

By the way it's constructed I can't see how in the heck it's gonna affect anything. For one, it's very pourous, about the only benefit to intake air coming in is that it isn't "straightened" and slowed down a touch by going through all of those see-through elements. Secondly, it's located past the MAFS so it's not going to affect the electronics in any big way. How the idle and other "things" are affected by its absence is anyone's guess. But better mpg after removal? Maybe - a tiny, tiny bit less restriction for the airflow. More power? Maybe - a tiny, tiny bit better because of the above.

So if you're looking for these tiny, tiny gains, as Adrenalin said, yank it out and don't worry about the horror stories. I did, same results as Adrenalin - no problems. I'll see about the gas mileage later. The HC trap is primarilly meant to work AFTER you shut the car off, not during operation.

That's why I said I couldn't see anything in the hose. I've see the pics on the site here where it is plainly visible through opening in the air box. I can see the MAF sensor, but it is just open pipe behind it.

I think Ford is still cutting costs anywhere they can.

yea Im still curious about this trap debate. I'm ordering the K&N CAI or Aircharger as they call it, and it takes the factory trap to deliver 15 horses, Im gonna experiment with taking it out with the K&N kit and see if there is a noticable difference.....

 

so let me get this straight...Do you need a tune or not after removing the trap?...I noticed alot of people have a tune as well...do i need to worry about my air fuel mixture with it out?

 

No tune. Just disconnect the battery for a while, or just let the computer adjust on it's own.

I went out tonight and pulled the hose off. There is NO trap in my car. Seems Ford stop putting it in for the 4/11 build week.

Come on all you 4/11 people, pull your hoses off!

 

Finally pulled out my HC Trap. Man that was easy! Took it on one little trip and noticed no difference in MPG, we'll see long term.

Didn't really notice much of a difference in anything else for that matter. If anything if sounds a little better. The exhaust has a little more 'grugle-blat' sound...maybe.

But the heII, it's free!
