About a month ago I installed a K&N Air Charger and it installed and fit on the engine great. Then I installed the throttle body spacer and it moved the intake real close to the coolant resevoir as shown below.

Well I figured it was okay until I took it drag racing and this happened

The engine torques on launch and the intake slams into the resevoir, knocking it off. I kept thinking I wish there was some way I could move that resevoir over, so I did some poking around. I took the screws off the resevoir, they are size M6x1.0.

There are the 2 screw holes plus that rectangular slot which the tab on the resevoir tank inserts into. See the next pic to see the tab.

So there's about 2 inches of clearance around the resevoir which I can move the tank. I get a piece of cardboard and cut myself a bracket template.

[attachmentid=35724]

So tomorrow I'll use this template to make this thing out of aluminum. I'll probably make it out of 1/4 inch aluminum. The hard part will be supporting this thing from underneath. I'll have to design another bracket to hold the tab in place to prop the whole thing up.

It'll be raining here tomorrow so I may be able to fabricate it then. I'll keep you posted on my progress.

I suppose being an Engineer helps some too.
So does having full access to a machine shop

I have the same setup, but before i installed the TB spacer those clamps would always find a way to loosen up. I awlays check them when i open the hood.

I bought a strip of 2" wide X 3/16" thick steel at home depot and after 2 hours of cutting, grinding, milling and drilling I came up with this

[attachmentid=35824]

The bracket fits perfectly. There's about a 3/8" gap between the tank and the radiator hose on both sides. The tank is now about 1/2"-3/4" away from the K&N intake. The tab on the bottom of the tank rests on the outside of the electric fan housing instead of that little slot. I don't think it's necessary to fasten it, I'll let Sir Issac Newton hold it in place for me.

I haven't mounted it yet because I want to spray paint it black because it will rust. It's raining real bad here so I don't think I'll be able to paint it for a while. I'll install it tomorrow and take pics of it. The only thing I don't like about it is that it covers a little bit of the plastic radiator cover piece. I'm trying not to be a perfectionist anymore though.

I hope a certain web retailer doesn't copy this bracket idea and start selling it like they did with my Honda S2000 start button.

Okay well I mounted it today to check the fit. Everything looks okay now.

You can see the tank is now a nice distance away from the intake. I plan on grinding the sharp corners away on the bracket and making them rounded. The steel is really strong so I'm not worried about weakening it.

I also used some 5 minute epoxy to fasten the rubber sleeve to the intake as mikem suggested. Hopefully this thing won't slip out anymore.

Is this a common problem if you have the TSB and the K&N CAI?

I want to install both of these mods on my car when I get it, but don't have access to Justin's machine shop...

i have no problems with my K&N and the TBS, i was the first to demo the TBS and I currently had the K&N at the time, I've had it on the car for several months now with no problems. The intake has not popped out of the Throttle Body or anything, I made sure it was on their tight, that thing will not budge, I even did a stress test by tugging on it and the intake would not move. EVen took it to the track a few times, did not move or budge. But like I said, no problems, I don't care that it slightly touches the resevoir, i'm still satisfied.

pretty ingenious. Too bad my MMR hits my power steering reservoir instead. Maybe I will try and look at the same solution but move it further right.

One of the supercharger kits comes with a power steering resevoir relocation bracket. I wonder if you could just special order one from them.
