I am about ready to get a new shifter, I really like the look of the Hurst but havent really heard great things about it. Does anybody have a hurst and want to comment? Can anybody recommend a good shifter at a reasonable price?

thanx

I got the Hurst/FRPP installed a month ago and have to say its like night and day. I really like it alot. At first it was rather stiffer and "notchy" but after a week it got better. After two weeks it was like stock only nice short throws. My only complaints is it is sometimes difficult to get into first or reverse. And it seems my troubles getting into first has rubbed the shift boot too much. I'm wondering though if that was an installation problem or if that rubbing/wearing out is normal.

I love my B&M, lowest price I've seen was $170-180, very very nice firm and smooth shifter and SHORT!, dont notice a sound difference between the B&M and stock, overall a great shifter and well designed!

From what i understood, the only difference from the hurst and hurst/frpp was the frpp version did not come with the chrome stick and white shifter ****. It remains basically the same height of stock and keeps the stock shifter ****. Ford just slaps their sticker on the side of the box. There was a groupbuy on them a cple months ago from CJ pony parts. Might still have a few around.

I have the Hurst and have had it for about 1000 miles (car has been parked for a month now). I really like it, it does take some getting used to. IMO the sound and notchiness (wonder if that is a word) people talk about is just the transmission input being transfered through the shifter. The shifter consists of a lever attached to a universal ball joint (a quite smooth universal joint). Also, it is mounted with stiffer bushings. It would seem to me that the shifter itself would not be causing notchy feelings or increased sounds. If someone is having these concerns I would check my installation (lubed and tight) and the shifter boots. I have had no additional problems shifting to any gear since adding the Hurst. Love the look also, gets lots of "Hey look it has a Hurst Shifter". I think the sound can be compared to the increased sound people experience when they upgrade LCA's. The tougher arms and bushing don't add more noise, they just give it a better platform to be transfered through. If anyone shoots a bow the SIMS Vibration dampeners on a bow are soft not hard. I guess for me that explains the increased sound and feeling. If someone doesn't want increased feel they should stick with the soft stock parts their made that way to make the car quiet and soft feeling. Oh and flame away, I'm sure someone will disagree with me.

I would say try the Saleen Short Throw Adapter and the Steeda or Prothane shifter bushings. You would probably spend around $60-$70.

Me and a buddy just bought the Saleen Short Throw Kit. Waiting until I have some daylight until we install them. Will post when installation is complete and give feedback.

One thing that Saleen did to **** me off! Part Cost $25...Shipping Cost $11.50. Shipping time = 11 days! With that much in shipping cost it should have come in a silk lined box and not the beat up envelop it came in. (Sorry, just a wee bit peeved)

Turned out great...but Saleen's installation instruction are WRONG. If you install the way the instructions tell you 1st, 3rd, and 5th gears are nearly impossible to shift into.

exactly 180 degrees opposite of the way the instructions say to do it. It is almost like they printed the picture backwards.

Not that it is your fault, but the B&M design for the 2005 Mustang GT is pretty bad. I know they make excellent products, but this one needs a redesign.

The shifter does not take into consideration the tranny movement when the car is under acceleration or braking. So when this occurs, you can hear the shifter base plate rubbing against the studs in the floorpan.

They should redesign it so that the plate can allow movement since the car has a remote gear change design and the baseplate CANNOT stay hard mounted to the floorpan. There is a similar problem with the Steeda Tri-Ax

I just installed my Hurst a week ago and I love it. Like others have said, it is like night and day compared to the stock shifter. After using the Hurst, the stock shifter would feel like a wet noodle. The only annoying thing about the Hurst is it rattles at WOT. Anyone else have that rattling?
