Where are you getting a rear end done for $500? I know you've had your gears in for a while, and I know you know what you're doin', so I can only assume you haven't had any problems with the install.... My gear swap in my '98 would have cost me a little over a grand if I had to pay for it... again, it was a warranty issue that we snuck in a set of 3.73s and it was the god awful price that dealers charge, but I've shopped around before and most places weren't even close to $500.
nice man...
but Adam, I wouldn't do 3.73s on this car.... starting out at 3.55s, you won't notice enough of a difference to justify the cost.
I went up from a 2.73 in my '98 a full bean to 3.73s and was tickled to death over it.... I'm thinkin' I might go to 3.73s when I do mine, only because I'm going to throw a blower on it, and I think 4.10s might be a little tall for street, and a daily driver..... but John would be the authority on that one.... but if I were sticking to natural aspiration, I'd definitly go with 4.10s

Can one of you guys clarify what exactly changing the rear end gears does as far as performance?

Thanks

Slater's Mustangs in Atascocita Tx. did my 4.10 swap...NO issues after about a thousand miles on it so far.....great quality work done up there...as far as the question on performance gain after the gear swap, all I can say is WWWWWOOOOOOOOOOWWWWW! Thing launches like a rocket....you'll feel the difference as soon as you pull out of the shop when they finish the install....It was like night and day.......enjoy!

Hey Clint! I guess I'll find out how the 4.10's mesh with the s/c as I'll get one for it eventually...The rpm's are pretty high on the 4.10 (about 2800 at 80mph in 5th gear)....but I don't do that much hwy driving and the holeshot the 4.10's give you is well worth losing some top end...I'm getting 50 mph in first gear and 80mph in second so it's SWEEEET!

I'm scheduled for 4.10s on Monday morning. The Ford Racing gears were $189 and the install is $300. Can't wait.

oh, sorry John. I thought you were already huffin'.... I just figured that an 8 lb screw type blower will put 417 hp on the ground, 472 at the flywheel on one of these '05 ponys.... and because of that, 3.73s ought to be sufficient to drag your tail outta the hole in a real big hurry, then then still leave a little on the top for ya. I'm sure you'll do it before I do, so you'll have to keep us all posted to give us an ideal of what it's like... the top end trade off for the bottom end. I have a feeling you're going to have to save your pennys for fresh tires a couple times a year.

and Jamie, that's a smokin' deal. I knew gears were less than $200... Ford Racing uses Richmond, which are great gear sets, but getting the labor for $300.... man, all I can say is that I hope they do a good job on it. If they do, then you got hooked up.

The site where i got my gears, mustangtuning.com, said $250 -$300 was average labor for a gear swap. Kenny Brown Performance recommended the shop where I'm getting the gear swap done and also where I'm going to get tuned when the Diablo Predator comes out for the 05.

i can't believe that it costs 200 plus for a gear swap where you guys live....
I buy the gears and pay 150/175 here most..... have had at least 10 sets of gears installed...and have never had a problem....but still there are places around here trying to charge more....maybe it's best to look around a little more where you're at.

Last time I did a gear swap it cost $500 (not including the ring and pinion).

There's no way anyone will do this for less than $300 here.

If anyone is looking to do a gear swap and lives close to Virginia Beach, Steen Racing is doing my swap for $ 419.00 bucks. That includes FRPP 4.10 gears and install....here's the link to their site

Did your mpg drop much when switching to the 4.11 gears or does it really only
affect you in heavy stop and go traffic and not so much on the highway? thanks
