Anyone notice a rattling sound coming from their shifter while under acceleration? Sounds like something might be loose on the shifter itself??? Just started happening at about 3000 miles.

mine does it only in 3rd gear. As a matter of fact, the shifter itself is flimsy in 3rd gear.

It's the shifter vibrating against the vinyl shift boot in my case. I was thinking that replacing it with the real leather shift boot from redline might cure this.

Same problem here, and it drives me nuts!

It's happening when crusing in 3rd-4th and 5th gear.

If someone finds a fix, please post.

Putting some armorall on the shift boot worked for a couple of days before it got dry and started rattling again. Make sure the boot is pushed down as far as it can go so it has less chance of rubbing against the shifter, that seems to quiet it down temporarily.

Anyone with the leather shift boot who still has this problem?

The rattling sound i'm getting in 5th gear sounds more like linkage bushings than leather rubbing on something. Verrrry annoying when driving over 80! Has anyone taken this up with a dealer yet?

Funny this topic came up this morning, I was about to start a slightly different thread. I noticed a rattle, actually more like a vibration, around the center console under moderate/heavy acceleration, most appearant in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears. I hope I don't hi-jack your thread with a different problem:

It turns out, in MY case, it's the e-brake handle. If I grab the e-brake handle when I hear the noise, it completely stops....every time.

I know that's not a solution, but it something else to take a look at. So grab your e-brake the next time you hear it and see if it stops.

Sooner or later, I'm going to take the center console apart and see if I can find where the vibration/rattle is coming from and try to fix it.

Anyone else notice this? Fix?

Mine was built in June...I have NO rattling issues at all, so it is something that Ford has already fixed I'd bet...ask your dealer to contact ford for you and ask them

I have the same rattle / vibration when coasting in 3rd. It seems "compression" is making the shifter vibrate !

I had the same problem, then worse the shift **** started to rub the side of the console when going to first. After ordering the Steeda replacement shifter bushings and begining the installation, I then discovered the problem. The shifter is held in place by a bolt to the transmission and 2 studs located on the underside of the driveshaft tunnel, located toward the rear of shifter hole. I am not sure what you will find on your car, but mine had (sorry don't know the correct term),push nuts.
A one time push in place mechanical do-dad instead of a real 10mm nut. This is the only thing that keeps your shifter from rocking back and forth.I would at least check those and replace with real nuts and see if that does'nt cure your problem.
Mine had worked its way down the stud causing some serious shifter noise and sloppiness as well. After the nuts and bushings, only authentic Tremec noises.

I took it to the dealer and they said that it was normal. BTW, I tried the e-Brake method and it made it go away on mine as well. Weird!!!
