Race Practice Starts to pay off....Videos

Got back from the track, second time to race with the Nitto DR. 77*F, 68% humidity, 29.9% pressure, and a 3660 race weight.

First run:

First run stats:

8.394
84.57
10.905
13.017
106.69

Second run:

Second run stats:
.664
1.942
5.453
8.395
84.27
10.924
13.052
105.86

The second run I ran against a SRT-8 Charger, had his 425hp sticker on the hood, lol. He ran in my rear view mirror and posted a 13.8.

Cooler weather and more practice a 12 sec time slip will happen for me!

Congrats those are some good times. Get a DS and some gears and you'll be in the 12's for sure.

Thanks! I still have some spots to hone in my technique and with that and a temp of 60* or less will set me in 12's without any more mods.

But with more mods you could go deeper into the 12's. The faster the better right?

I agree 110%!! But I have spent a good amount of $$ on the car this year, and to increase the chances of the wife OKing my supercharging plans for next year I need to keep the wallet closed to car parts. So I just work with what I got .

Great numbers Dean. And thumbs up on the plan. That's what I'm doing. Laying low, being nice and helpful. I've already got SC approval.

Nice times!

Don't ya just hate it when you are a few hundredths off from your goal. I just did about 15 1/8th mile runs last weekend. I hate the 1/8th but thats where my buddies wanted to go, so I figured I'd practice my launching. My goal was a 1.9 on my Kumho 285's. They were hooking up great I just kept bogging or over doing it and spinning. They were also set at 35psi, which didn't help. I didn't want to lower them (forgot my portable compressor).

I couldn't get any better than a 2.1 60ft. I was getting frustrated..lol. Mickeys are in my near future. Best I did was an 8.6 with a 2.1 60 ft. I should def be in the low 13's with some Mickeys.

Low 13's easy for you. Your sig say you ran a 13.5 stock, I ran a 14.2 stock. With your mods you will be in the 12's. As for the bogging, I was launching at 4500, when I popped the clutch I bogged but when I just slipped the clutch I hooked good and didn't bog. Too bad you track doesn't have a compressor, HRP has one so I pump the fronts to 45 psi, and am able to fill the DR back up for the drive home. I read that street tires will offer their best traction when they are at the factory recomended psi, don't know if that is true or not. My 60ft times were the same on street tire at 20 psi or 35 psi.

Good going Dean,
From just watching the vids I would have bet that your RT and ET was the best in the second run. Great take out on the Charger!!! They are overweight pigs with a big motor.

Cool 12's "You Can Do It"

Congrats on beating that Mopar!! Keep up your great build work. I must be getting to far along or have I lost touch? I ran a Ford big block 390 T-Bird at the drags for years. And if we raced on the 1/4 mile, it was always called "the strip". And when others raced round and round, it was always called "the track". Has that naming convention somehow been lost to the newer generation of our racers? Just a little curious about calling the ol' drag strip ("the track"). Calstang Smell it? Here comes the flames!!

I agree Scott. It just shows that I still have room to improve and the times I posted are not the best the car can do, just the best the driver can do..............for now.

I haven't heard it called the strip except in a movie maybe, but if somebody called it that I would know what it was. My friends and I call it the track.
What did the 390 run?

Yeah when I get sticky tires, my goal is high 12's. That stock 13.5 was done on a PERFECT evening (70*, low humidity and sticky track) and it took me about 15 runs to get it....lol. I kept getting 13.6-13.8 most of the night, then I let it sit for about an hour and was first in line. Got a 2.0 60ft on the stock 235's at 25psi and power shifted the crap out of it and pulled off a 13.5. I was happy! I did have the spare and jack removed as well.

I haven't had a chance to run a 1/4 since the mods unfortunately. One of these days though.

I wish my street tires stuck when I powershifted. I only went to the track once with the 235\'s after I learned how to powershift, the track was slick and I got sideways every time I hit 2nd, and chirped 3rd. My 14.2 was a hot day and the humidity was almost like fog.

It's always humid in Houston. I don't know why Houstonians havn't mutated to gills instead of lungs. Sucks to be drag racer in Houston I guess.
