What is required for most tracks in a racing helmet? certain rating?

What do you guys use, open face? full face?

I'm using an ansi and snell certified full face motorcycle helmet. Our 1/8th track doesn't require one, but our 1/4 mile track does.

It really comes down to what your track is going to accept.

Yeah, look at your local track(s) and find out what their requirements are. Then find something you like.

 

Never thought finding a helmet was gonna be a PITA

 

You could always wrap aluminum foil around a baseball cap and tell them you thought it would work.

 

I posted this elsewhere, but I'll repeat it here.

I think the new 2006 rule for NHRA requires a Snell 2000 rated helmet. Snell 95 is no longer acceptable. I have this one, HJC CL14 (in black), which I got from a motorcycle/offroad shop. Click pic for link to HJC website.

 

You guys are looking at the wrong type of helmets. Motorcycle helmets are rated with a M rating, and if your track is strict, won't allow. You want a SA2000 rated helmet. You can use that at the drag strip and at HPDEs.

Actually the track I go to is pretty forgiving on teching in.
They had no problems for passengers in an 05 GTO. I thought riders were frowned upon.

Where do you usually go? Byron or GLD. Both are a joke in terms of tech. I forgot my helmet and they allowed me to run at GLD. Route 66 is real strict about tech. You might want to check the NHRA tech book, but I am pretty sure you need a SA rated helmet. I know that this is the rule when going to road couses.

cant beat the price 6 to get in, 6 to run all day.
There is a road coarse day at the Autobahn(*spelling) track in Joliet in June Im seriously considering.

 

I've been to Autobahn before. I have 2 friends whom are members there. If you plan on running your car there, better get a SA helmet. Did you look at G-Force? They make a nice helmet that doesn't break the bank.

 

I just started my helmet hunt. The road coarse event tech I was told is as follows

Tech is basically:
No Leaks
An SA95 or newere helmet (no motorcycle helmets)
Safety belts working properly
New brake fluid
Good tires
Good (may I suggest new brake pads

and most importantly: Driver needs to bring his/her common sense.

 

i have the IHRA book at home. They did change the requirements this year. I believe it used to be Snell 90 and up and changed to Snell 95 and up for this year. Next year it's supposed to change to Snell 2000.

I'll know for sure when I get home and read the book. All new helmets are Snell 2000 anyway. The Snell 2005 standards were just released so you will start to see some of those.

I bought my helmet at a cycle shop near here. It's an HJC CL-14 and the color matches Redfire. I think Wine Berry or something is the color. I paid around $125

 

Not a requirement, but is necessary IMO. Buy stainless line and get track pads. Also, bleed your brakes beforehand. I just looked and they came out with a SA2005 helmet. That's what I would personally buy. My opinion is that you can't be cheap when it comes to your own safety. If you have never been on a road course before, learn the limits on the stock tires. Also, be prepared to buy a lot of tire and brakes

S. burbs, 145th and cicero. Yeah F1's are what I want when stockers are worn. Unless I can sell the stockers before then.
