I bet this has been covered before, but I haven't turned anything up with a search, so sorry in advance if it's a repost.

I've got a buddy that just got an 06 GT that is identical to my 05, and he says he heard that 06 performance had been bumped up, but I could swear that there were no engine/power changes for 06. Until we can make it out to the track to square off, I'd like to know what the numbers say. I haven't been able to find any source for my claim, so I was wondering if you guys could help a brotha out with a little research.

Thanks in advance!

No difference whatsoever in performance.

If you opt for 18" rims for 06 models then I believe it has bigger brakes and suspension work, but there is no real performance difference.

See, that's what I thought, but I've been unable to find anything halfway official that confirms this.

Even if they had minor changes, it would come down to who's the better driver....but there were no changes in the engine. So.....

I knew about possible suspension tweaks, but bigger brakes? Huh?

Anyone know for sure?

Not aware of any substantive engine/tranny differences that would account for any significant acceleration improvements. Probably some usual minor ECU software changes, but nother important.

The 18" wheels, accompanying suspension tuning differences (?) and bigger brakes might account for some small handling and braking differences in those quarters of the overall performance envelope, most probably due to the bigger tires themselves.

The rotors themselves are the same size as the 2005. The size of the calipers changed so that there may be clearance issues with some wheels. There shouldn't be any difference in braking performance between the 2005 and 2006.

Smoke him at the track, and go along with the idea that the 06 is more performance. You'll put him to shame. And if you lose, you can just say it's because of his increased performance. heh

Thanks. I thought it was just different caliper castings instead of physically larger brakes. Glad i'm not getting less effective brakes b/c of 17" wheels.

I did read that the 06 was like 3/4" higher and weighed a tad bit more

I read this too - I think it was in the MCA magazine. I was wondering what caused the changes in height and weight.
