I have been driving manual for about 7 months now. im pretty good at it and my shifts have become better and better each time i drive it. 10k miles now and no problems. My main question is im gonig to the track soon and i would liek to know what the best tips/tricks are to getting the best 1/4 time i can get. Correct me if im wrong but i have heard that launching the car from about 2500-3000 rpms is good for a great takeoff.

1. Is the launch done in first gear or second?

2. Is it better to run the gears till right before the rev limiter before shifting or should i keep it between certain rpms when shifting?

3. Currently im using Doug's 93 torque tune. is that the best to use for the 1/4 mile or should i switch to the 93 PErformance?

Any other tips/tricks would help. Ive only been to the track once in my life in my 94 Tbird automatic. i got a 15.5 in the 1/4 mile and my R/T was horrible at 1.5. I didnt know you could go on the last yellow.

first gear
all the way but dont hit the limiter
when you go on the last yellow you are actually going on the green by the time you react

Doug's Torque tune is mainly for everyday use, I'd try both the performance tune and the torque tune just to see how the car runs. The Performance is mainly for WOT or the drag strip, cause you'll benefit in the higher RPM range.

R/T has nothing to do with your quarter mile time. .5 or 1.5 won't change your ET

Next time I'm at the track (which won't be until at least 9/30/05, unfortunately), I plan on doing just that. I'll make a few passes with both the TQ tune and the HP tune, and see what the results are. I've been driving since Sunday with the TQ tune in, and I'm impressed (especially with my auto trans).
