Question on CAI's/Warranty work

Ok, here is my question. Ive read that you need to use a tune with a aftermarket CAI and it wont run right w/o it.

so first off...Is that true?

Second. If it is true, then what do you do when/if you have to take your car back to Ford for warranty work/repairs, etc?? I know you should flash it back to stock, but then the car will run like ****???

Most intakes require a tuner, some don't. As for a programmer, use it and when you need to go in for service simply remove your tune and reset the car to stock.

As Brandon says some intakes require a tune while others don't. If you choose to go all out and install a CAI and tune then warranty work occurs one of two ways:

1. The dealership you go to supports modifications at which point you don't need to reset the tune or remove the intake.

2. The dealership you go to tends to do things by the book. When you need to go in for service you reset the tune back to stock and re-install the stock intake. If you leave the upgraded intake installed without the custom tune there's a chance you might get a CEL due to the A/F ratio now being off.

I asked the dealership if installing a CAI and tune would affect my warranty. He said as long it didn't contribute to any malfunctions it wouldn't negate my warranty. He also said that installing a CAI with tune would be a relatively safe mod. He is the only FRPP dealer in my area so is likely more mod-friendly.

So I would suggest that you ask the dealer you plan to go to for service.
