Pypes O/R H-Pipe with Flowmasters (VIDEOS)

I just installed the Pypes O/R H-Pipe today and I'm still up in the air about it. It trumpets at 2500-2750 RPMs when under load. Will take getting used to - or I could install the Edelbrock Mufflers in my signature (they have built in resonators which should help with the trumpeting).

Here are a few videos:

Revving:

Here's two of my friend Dave doing a couple of drive-bys (I wanted to hear what it sounded like outside the car).

The first one is a slow cop check. Kinda windy night:

The second one is quicker. I wish he could have stayed on it in the next gear, but he slowed down because of the car coming the other direction (figures a car would come just then).

Tell me what you think! I'm still not TOTALLY thrilled. I love how it sounds (except for the trumpet), but I would still love to hear what it sounds like with the Edelbrock mufflers.

I heard this combo in person at Brenspeed last November and I still remember thinking that it sounded pretty good. The trumpeting caused by the offroad pipe just ruins it though in my opinion- not just with the Flows, but with almost any muffler. I had stainless Bassani's and loved them; then I added the offroad H and liked the additional power, but hated the trumpeting. I was so mad that I was going to go with the side exhaust kit from Cervini's, but ended up buying Corsas instead. The Corsas have very little trumpeting only at certain engine loads and have no drone. Here's a video of my setup:

Maybe your Edlebrocks are similar to my Corsas???

Maybe... seems similar. I have zero drone (before and after the H-Pipe), and only trumpeting at 2500-2750 RPM. Maybe I'll hear some in a higher RPM window, but haven't been up there that much, yet!

Any opinions on the Edelbrock mufflers? I think they would do the trick - and maybe eliminate ALL trumpeting with those built in resonators.

I don't know anything about the Edelbrock's...... as easy as the mufflers are to change, I guess it won't take long for you to find out if you want

89Trooper - I think it sounds awesome. I wish it wasn't so windy in the videos but it still sounds good. I have been thinking about getting that h-pipe myself as I have the Flomaster AT's also. What do you mean when you refer to trumpeting though? What does it sound like?

I just wish they were as cheap as they are easy.

Thanks! As far as the wind, we have a wicked storm blowing through tonight. As far as the trumpet, I wish I knew how to describe it better, or what it actually is. At 2500-2750 RPMs, the exhaust note gets higher and louder even if you are just accelerating normally, then it goes back to normal after that RPM window. I guess the honeycomb material in the cats reduces this or cancels it out all together. The solution, from what I've read, is to have a resonator welded in somewhere before the muffler on each side. That's why I want to try the Edelbrock mufflers in my signature. If you click on the link, the first part of the muffler is a resonator chamber, and then it goes into the other chambers of the muffler. The Flowmasters don't have that resonator chamber. The Edelbrocks won't be as loud as the Flows... I'm OK with that if they get rid of the trumpet.

Yes! I had one (still have it in my barn if anyone wants to make me an offer) and it definitely trumpeted. It was even more noticeable than the o/r h-pipe.

Really?
With flowmaster AT mufflers, you had no drone (between 1,600-2,000 rpm), even before the h-pipe!?! What have I done wrong???

Nothing... I can't have an interior drone - I don't have an interior.

The convertible top must change the sound or "absorb" the drone. A guy at work has a coupe with Flows and he has a drone.

+1 on that...

The O/R H isn't for everyone. There's been several members here that removed it off their cars, and that's okay. Your next step is to research and find your ideal exhaust combination. Try not to blindly replace this with that, as this can result in chasing an imaginary dream note that'll never materialize (not to mention drain your bank acct!).

I think he was stating that he didn't like the o/r H with the Flows, and I am pretty sure that he loves the sound of it with his Corsa's.

WOW I think that sounds pretty good!!

Only problem is, I am like you - the trumpets would drive me NUTS
I have actually considered this especially with Tom's setup with the Corsas like I have.... I liked his vid first time I heard it previously.... but I am a psycho about little things - I would NOT be able to ignore the trumpets.... part of the reason I sold the X pipe I had on the 05 is because the raspiness of the X pipe sound bugged the crap out of me.

I don't know man - tough decision - I would have to hear how bad the trumpets are... because otherwise it sounds sweet.

Because of the information on trumpeting (in a negative manner) that's circulating through the online forums, most everyone 'listens' for it. And because the mass have labled it as bad or unwanted, we tend to follow suite.

I have given rides to a few people in my car who know nothing about O/R H-Pipes or Mustang Forums and none have said, "Hey! What's that funny trumpeting sound?". It simply went unnoticed.
