Thumbs up

I keep thinking my next purchase is LT Headers but I have heard a few times about how tough it is to pull them again when you upgrade the clutch, preassure plate and throw-out bearing. I am going to get that stuff in before the headers.

I would like to hear from you guys that have upgraded. What did you get and what made you decide on it.

Thank you,
Russ

I put in a Spec Stg 3+ and a lightened aluminum flywheel after I torched the stock clutch. I went with Spec b/c I had used them in the past with no problems. I launch my car on slicks on nitrous at 6k rpm's and no problems whatsoever even though it is driven daily. Great street manners as well.

WOW!... isn't that pretty much an on/off clutch? Stage 3+......

Are you serious that it has good street manners.....?

Do you sell them? (if so please PM me a price)

Adam at ST Motorsports ran an 11.50 on a Clutch Master Stage 4 recently. He is an authorized dealer for the clutches.

Yes I can get the Spec clutches-Im serious about it having good street manners too-thats the difference between the stg 3 and the stg 3+ as well as having a little more holding power.

I would like to suggest one thing about changing out clutches. The issue at hand is the distance between the flywheel and slave master. If you change out the clutch only, you're looking at installing shims behind the slave master. This is needed to bring the clutch closer to the flywheel. Without shims, the clutch will not engage the flywheel enough. The downfall is that once the clutch wears, it'll be necessary to add another shim, which involves dropping the tranny again.
Option 2: Replace the flywheel at the same time. Most 05/06 specific clutche/flywheel combo's are made to compensate for the shims. The flywheel is a different thickness and is brought closer to the clutch. The clutch will wear, but will still be within working distance of the flywheel. Centerforce and Spec are 2 that I know, that work without extra crap to do.
I had a RAM clutch, which is on/off. You do get used to it, but decided to change brands and the flywheel when the RAM wore down some. I was at the point of adding another shim. It so happended to work out, time-wise, that the block cracked and was doing the tranny conversion. I'll be going to a Centerforce DFX combo. Spec seems to be working great for quite a few as well.

Good to know, I have always wondered about that. I feel lucky as you know, over 40 passes in the 11's and still retaining the stock clutch/flywheel. I know my days are numbered and I will most likely fry the stock clutch with the turbo setup and I am shopping currently for a good clutch/flywheel combo. Tell me again what you are going with, clutch and flywheel. I know you are using a different tranny but the mfg is what is important to me.

Centerforce DFX clutch, Centerforce alum. flywheel. I bought them from JPC. Inmotion performance might carry them as well.

LOL I was reading another thread and posted with disregard to the ..."ah, I'll wait.." post. When I first started into this forum, I would watch my thread count-for whatever reason. After 100, I honestly haven't taken note.
