Problem with BBK headers
Problem with BBK headers
Anyone here have any experiences sending anything back to BBK. My ceramic shorty headers arrived a few days ago and first thing I noticed as I opened the box was a small gap in one of the welds that will cause an obvious leak. I bought them from latemodel restoration supply and have already checked their website and they want me to pay to ship it back to them and they will ship a new set back to me. I don't really want to pay more money. Anyone know if BBK has the same policy for returns.
Have you called LRS yet to tell them what the problem is? It's obviously not your fault the part came with a defect. If they still want you to pay more shipping, then call BBK and see if they will do something for you.
LRS wants me to pay for the shipping they see it as not being their fault either because it is a manufacturing issue on BBK's end. I called BBK yesterday and had to leave a voice mail, never heard anything back so later that day I sent an email as well. I tried calling today, but was put through to voice mail again.
then you might as well pay the shipping and send them back...you did'nt buy them from BBK, but you did pay LRS to ship them to you. you appear to be looking for whats fair and that will not happen, LRS, your shipper has spoken, all you're doing now is prolonging the day you get what you paid for.
I installed a set of ceramic bbk shorties a few weeks ago and have been complaining about the "new" exhaust sound ever since. I wonder if I could have a bad weld? I glanced at them but didn't think to look too closely. Is there any easy way to check for leaks at home??
What does it sound like? Anytime Ive had a header leak it was from the bolts backing out and it was a pretty obvious hissing sound. Heres some pics of the gap in the weld I had. I know it looks small, but it caught my eye as soon as I opened the box. Sorry for the quality of pic, I had to shut off my flash and stick a flashlight thru the other side to shine some light thru.
Yeah, that's pretty obvious. Glad you caught it before you spent forever installing them.
I have never dealt with aftermarket headers before so maybe what I am hearing is typical. Its not a hissing sound but more of a VW bug/Subaru sound. I only hear it from the cabin. Outside the car it sounds good. I replaced the x-pipe with a pro-chamber and put the stock A/B's back on and it still sounds funny inside. I was actually embarrassed to drive for a few days. Maybe its a typical shorty header sound but I am not crazy about it at all.

My only experiences have been with long tube headers on older vehicles. This will be my first experience with shorty headers. I'll try to post a video clip of what it sounds like. I have flowmaster axle backs and I have a generic x pipe from jegs(looks like a pretty good part, not sure who makes it for them). Im just waiting for my CMCV plates and CAI from Bamachips.
