PRO 5.0 shifter feed back
#2
Look at TacoBill's page on his MGW for removing the old shifter. The Pro 5.0 looks to be like the Steeda Tri Ax. I posted a couple of pics and tips last week from when I installed mine. Just look a couple of pages into it part of the forum. Not a bad job. Just get the boot on right. They did one on Horsepower TV a week or so ago too. I kept mine in two pieces and assembled it under the car to make it easier to get in there. I also didn't remove the driveshaft, although that would probably be easy. Just mark everything first if you do that.

I like the shifter it is built really well and is an easy install but it has two downfalls I think, the shifts arent short enough and 5th and Reverse are very hard to get in to.
#5
Not short enough? Do you have the handle in the high position or low? I think the high position leaves some pretty long throws, but the bottom holes leave a really short throw.
#6
I had it in the high position but changed it to the low position. I called Pro 5.0 and they said that in the high position that the throw was about 24% and in the low it was 32 %. Their isn't that much difference and the throw isn't as short as the Hurst Shifters.

ok a few things I learned
1. use loctite
2. the rubber gasket material at home depot. 6x6x1/8 helps. i used it in 3 places
3. the dynamat helps. i used 1-10x10 piece (for noise control)
4. the brass bushings-the big one goes to the outside and the little one to the inside. the pic that comes with the shifter (pro 5.0) shows the big one to the inside. just pay close attition to your old shifter set up.
5. us a towel when removing the shifter console to prevent any unwanted marks on the dash. i removed the side kick panels too, not hard at all.
6. no need to remove the drive shaft, its just extra work and you can work around it
7. tools needed. i used 1/4 drive due to the confined space under the shifter. 7mm and phillips for console, 10mm and 13mm sockets w/ a 10' extension. I used 2 sets of ramps to make the car more stable while in the air. jack stands are ok but the ramps where more stable and I had a better piece of mind while my car was in the air and i was underneith it.
over all the shifter fells crisper, 1st is kinda hard to get in to sometimes but all in all i like it
8. Pro 5.0 offers a shim kit to help w/ any shifting issues such as shifting into 5th,R or 1st and 2nd. Some cars will have this problem like mine if so just call them at 908-241-4336 and them will ship it to you

I found it super easy to install the rubber boot with the center console removed. Two nuts/two screws and it's off. Plenty of room to install the boot. Also, after around a month, reverse and 5th are a non-issue. They weren't too bad to start with, but they's getting easier with time.

My 5th is a pain and I have to use 2 hands to get into reverse and I have had it for about 2 months now and drive it every day...

Dang...You sure you don't have the bottom bolt too tight? My reverse was a bit hard at first, but never that much that I'd have to use two hands. As a matter of fact, I paid extra attention to the effort today and fifth is the same as stock and reverse is a little bit tighter than stock, but not by much.

check your bushings you may have them backwards, i had the same issue just swap them. If first gear becomes an issue after the swap then call pro5.0 for a shim kit. look under the car while you have someone going through the gears if you see the shifter binding up going into 5th and R. than its the bushings.
