Price for Header Install ???

A shop close to my area quoted me $400 for header & o/r h-pipe install on my 07 GT. Just wondering if this was a fair price?

It's a fair price, figure if they have done a few. They should have it done in less then 6 hrs. If they have never done a set on these cars expect it to take 8+ hrs. It really is not that hard if you have the tools and time. Save yourself 400 bucks then. Invite a few friends over and make a afternoon of it.

That sounds like a fair price I was told $800 which made the decision easy for me. It took a total of about 9 hours, after tracking down tools and such. I was crazy though I did it completely alone. The only really dumb thing I did was laying under the factory H-Pipe when I undid it. Of course it fell on my face, but I am very proud of the job done, and I know from the instructions, tips on this site, and others suggestions it was done right.

Thats a VERY good price. I would give it a shot at doing it yourself, which is what I did. My only previous experience was mufflers and CAI install before the headers.

You better take that deal and run with it. Header install is usually $500 plus......

What tools are required to install headers? (besides sockets/wrenches/etc)

Will the car need to be lifted, or can it be done on some 6" ramps? No engine jacks/etc? Just unbolt, remove, install new headers?

Get locking bolts and a good gasket. You don't want them coming loose in a few thousand miles.

6" ramps.....maybe. I would suggest a good jack and stands, 2x4 to lift the motor if need be. Also various 13mm 5mm 10mm 15mm sockets wrenches, etc. Ratchet wrenches would be best. You could spend 200 bucks on tools a case of beer and have a friend help and still cost less then a shop installing them.

That is a good price! Drop it off and a few hours later it is done - nothing better sometimes!

I always start out looking for prices on installs and usally do the work myself in the end.....to save money. Usally with some words that can not be typed here and end up with some blood on the wrong side of my skin. In the end I am happy I did the work myself. Now if I made 400 bucks a day it would be a different story all together. lol

Motor mounts... IF you want to get rid of the stockers, then when you're doing long-tubes is definitely the time, since you have to do everything but remove them. If you don't care, and they aren't broken, there's no need.

Hmm, I didn't want to have to jack anything because I don't have any level ground (or a garage). This would have to happen in front of the house, in street parking. (It's reasonably level and I change my oil on ramps there, but not level enough for me to want to use a jack) Has anyone done their headers install outside on the street?

I really wouldn't recommend doing headers in the street. They take a few hours to install and You shouldnt attempt this without the proper area to install them. Thats why most shops want about 4-600 to install them.
