Stock:
Anything above and beyond what it SHOULD run at...is a waste.
You can throw it in if you want...but you really are throwing away your cash.
If you have computer modifications that require higher octane, then obviously you should use it.
FROM the FACTORY: the 05 GT 3v is an 87 Octane engine.

I agree whole heartedly with you, however, my car was detonating above 3k on premium, so, since I didn't want to retard timing, I had to upgrade. (I did check all the usual suspects and no love, so it's the gas and heat
)

Yes, I was talking about my cobra, but I was using it as an example in reference to when you would want to go to a higher than recommended octane...
So, I have probably confused some people. I do that a lot

A cobra requires higher octane. The 05 DOES NOT.
Lets try this
USING HIGHER THAN 87 OCTANE ON THE 2005 MUSTANG WILL NOT MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE WHATSOEVER

the only main diffrences on octane ratings is that 87 is faster burning that lets say 93 or any higher number
The higher the # the slower the burn. This car can take anything since it has Variable valve timing.
So to conclude it wont make a diff what you use.

You are correct, I was just adding some info that some people don't know when they are looking at cars and people tell them they have to use premium. They don't HAVE to, but it is recommended.

However, the 05 GT WILL USE Regular gasoline. Using Premium in the 05 will make no difference in the performace of the car whatsover.
I know this is all repated information, but this thread was amazingly confusing because of little comments here and there. I perhaps, haven't helped any.
Okay, carry on.

I'm not sure what you mean by that in regards to the 05. The press so far has all said that the GT is designed to run on regular. In that case, there should be no advantage to running premium.

The thing you need to remember about modern cars, when they tell you premium it is a recommendation, not an absolute necessity. If you look in the owners manual it will tell you it will run on regular, but you won't have the full performance of the engine. The computer can handle the engine running on regular.

To echo Jeffery here, manufacturers specify a minimum octane. You must use a gasoline with at least that octane. A higher octane gasoline allows for higher compression. If your engine requires regular, putting a gas that is capable of higher compression is useless since your compression ratio will never change (obviously) unless you do certain modifications (another topic).
The point I wanted to make was that no manufacturer will specify an octane and then at the same time recommend a higher octane. This is the reason I feel your post might be confusing to some.
