took two trips to auto zone but i got the right belt. it's 14" shorter than the current belt. since everybody here has different setups concerning belt lengths(pulleys and e-waterpumps) don't know if this will help but i used an 85" belt. normally i have a 99.5" belt. i find out this week if it does anything screwy to the ecm.

i drove for about 30 feet and it was hairy. it does not like not having pressure to the rack unit. the car wandered all over the road. darn. i knew it was too good to be true. must be something about these s197 cars cause i've done this on fox bodies and no issues like that.
unless you are planing on changing rack units to a manual one don't even try it.
i didn't make it 1/8 mile and turned around came back and changed belts. it was 100% better then. doesn't handle too well with the e.t. streets & e.t. fronts on but i don't plan on street driving more then a couple miles to to ice cream stand with those on.

hahah... I'm glad you didn't take out a bus stop or something. I'll put this on my list of "things not to do". Thanks for trying.

Is that on the list just below "Don't turn the boost up on stock internals?"

Yeah, I got rid of the air pump and PS on a Fox body and it seemed ok, it's good to know I can't do this on the S197.

IT does that cause the cars caster alignment is different then a vehicle with standard steering. Ever see a shopping cart and the back wheels is vibrating and not running straight. That's what your car was doing but with powesteering it can hold it from doing that

yeah thats exactly what it felt like. i kind of like that skaty feeling you get on a wet road at 100mph but this was just freakin out of control feeling. i also remember that the spindle is moved almost 1" forward of the ball joint. now i know why it felt like that. imagine that shopping cart wheel but you are pushing it backwards. and trying to keep the wheels straight. soon as i corrected it went completely the other direction.
to run a manual steering safely you would have to replace the spindle/strut with ones that are lined up with the ball joint...like a fox body is. thats way too much even for me to do to this car. i don't mind cutting and welding and fabricating but i still want it to be an 06 not an 86 reskinned.
man i love this car
andy it snowed today so no videos for a few days. at least until the roads are dry.
