Power mod for under $1,000

I bought my car new and I'm getting a bit bored with it. What power mod would you guys recommend for under a grand? Thanks.

Not interested in nitrous, so I guess cams or headers. Which will give me the best bang for the buck?

4.10 gears will get you to and through the power curve faster.

Well you're probably not going to be able to do cams for under $1000 unless you can put them in yourself.

If you're gonna do cams you really need exhaust and gears. I have ***** thumprs. They sound amazing but the performance could be better. I've seen a dyno sheet from a 3v that had the FRP intake, longtubes, and the brenspeed Detroit rocker cams. He put down 348hp 325tq. I have the thumpers and the delete plates and I got 329hp 305tq. You don't need the phaser limiters for the Detroit rockers either. If I did it again that's what I would have done differently. Just my 2 cents.

Gears will give you the biggest "butt dyno" gain for your money in that price range, hands down. This will be especially true if your car came stock with the 3.31 ratio that ford switched to instead of the standard 3.55 in 07.

My car with off road X pipe, intake and 91 octane tune as the only real performance mods + 3.73s feels a whole world faster than a bone stock 07 GT we have at work with 3.31s

I was a mechanic earlier in life, so I've always done all the mods on my mustangs. I would do the cams myself. Will I get a decent benefit from cams with stock exhaust and 3.55 gears?

My buddy has the comp cams stage 2 NSR with 3.55's on a hot summer day he put down 320rwhp with an O/R X pipe, delete plates and pulley @ the track he consistently runs 12.8@110
I call them the sleeper cams. LOL

Do you need to run your cats?

Florida isn't that far away,
Most of the cars that I've seen run cats are high flow with LT plus the cams and those seem to rum pretty well.
Not sure how well cams with the stock exhaust will perform but I'm sure this will be your biggest restriction in performance gains.

If no other choice at-least for me it would be cams and gears for now and move into LT with High flow cats later.

Don't mean to thread jack OP, but just curious, how badly to the NSR stage 2's affect gas mileage in your friend's car? I'd love to do cams but my car is a spring/summer/fall DD and I can't afford to get significantly less gas mileage than I do currently.

Don't forget the cost of a Dyno tune , since most good mods are going to require one to get the most out of them.

Cams will give you the same butt dyno feel as gears. I have both and say it is a toss up. I run 4:10's and it pulls hard but cost a little MPG. Cams pull hard and cost a little MPG. The gears can be done for about $650 - $750 installed.

Ok, thanks for all of the info guys. What's the easier install, headers and mid-pipe or cams?
