Does the PJ Saleen use the same racecraft shocks, struts and springs as other Saleen? I want to make sure to have the right stuff before I lay down 1200 bucks!

Derek,
I believe its all new and not carried forward from othe Saleens.
This doesn't help with parts but it will give you an indication of capabilities.

Let me add that the "Saleen"-style mounting of the crank to the diff cover is also used by other aftermarket manufacturers of Watts links - I saw a similar setup in one of those truck/SUV mags being installed on a "blingmobile". Don't know if there's a difference in strength, durability or actual performance between the two set ups.

the kit from saleen is just the two bars, support, and differential cover, all to make the kit, the rest of the suspension you buy on your own but the price is still $1200 the frays kit is between $500-$600

How does this compare to the new Lakewood one that's coming out?. I can't imagine theirs will be anywhere near that pricey

That was a quick responce on a sunday, about the same price as the saleen but looks alot stronger and if the bolt breaks you will not have problems with the differential cover

The Fays link looks very interesting. Glad to have this forum. I like that it lets you use the stock exhaust, etc.

My 00 Crown Vic has a Watt's linkage rear suspension. It wobbles more than the standard 4-bar setup used in the past (similar to the Fox stangs). 98-present Crown Vics all have Watt's link rear suspensions.

Looking at this picture at the link listed below you can see the racecraft N2 shocks and springs. They look the same as the ones on regular Saleens. I will call them to see if they are different than the ones they put on the 281. I want to clone the entire Saleen suspension, add the watts linkage and then throw a pair of the the Saleen Extreem upgraded rear trailing arms.

I just got off of the phone with the people at Saleen and I was told that the PJ Saleen uses the same front and rear suspension as the other Saleens minus the watts linkage and upgraded rear sway bar that comes with the watts. I will clone their suspension technology into my car so my car will have the power of a Saleen SC and the handling capability of a PJ..... mu ha ha ha ha haaaaaaaaaaaaaaah!

Good theory, but I'm willing to bet a PJ will still whip you on a road course. Why? Because they have an additional 100 bhp without the additional 140lbs that a S/C will cost you. Yeah, the S/C will give you a HP edge (about 75 HP) but the weight savings is HUGE in road racing.

You will, however, have a kick *** street car in the end!

Thanks for the first impressions...

The telling test will be taking a curve that has undulations in the surface to see how the rear end stays planted.

Steering response, I believe, is more a function of the front suspension geometry. Lateral acceleration (curves at a constant rate of speed) is affected by tire grip, assuming the surface is smooth.

I think the rear-end hop is what many people criticize regarding a live-axle suspension.

Can you describe the wobble in terms of the driving dynamics? Do you experience this in steady state, straight-ahead driving or cornering? Do you notice this over bumps?

I am trying to recall the last cab ride I had to see if this rings a bell with me.

In the meantime, your comments would be appreciated. Thanks!

I really don't know how the Saleen suspension and Watts linkage makes the car handle better nor do I care how it does it. All I need to know is that it will make my car stick to the road like glue! Go to the link below and you will see a short video of a PJ Saleen going through the paces on a road racing course. It looks like it handles pretty good to me and definately better than a mustang with the factory suspension system.

Looks like the Lakewood version is similiar to the Fays. If a person is not road racing is this setup still preferred??

I think that this set up is great for road racing or street performance. If you are big into drag racing replacing the rear upper and lower control arms would be a better choice.
