After doing alittle research today on TMS, I decided to get my next mod. I just ordered FRPP 4:10 gears. After doing that I have read mixed signals, on my next step..... Do I need anything else, or do I need to go ahead and order the install kit? I read in a thread that if my car was fairly new that I wouldn't need it. My car has less than 4000 miles on it. Thanks for any input, Spider

I'm having mine installed next week and my installer said I would not need to waste money ($80 - $100) buying an installation kit, all that I would need is a seal assembly and spacer from Ford...
Seal Assembly - PN F89Z4676AA ($19.06)
Spacer - PN B7A4662A ($8.28)
For those of you who already had them installed, please correct me if I am wrong... Thanks!

You are forgetting about the most important part, the tuner. You will need it.

I had gears installed and am running stock tune until I get custom tune from bamachips. It's my understanding that you can drive without problem(s) with stock tune though the speedo will be off. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks

i too am wanting to get some 4 10's installed.. now i have almost 16,000 miles so I'm guessing I will need the install kit? Would I need those 2 peices from ford as well or is that found in the kit itself?

I bought the gears and the install kit. I have 5000 miles on the car and didn't want to be missing anything that they might have needed. The kit cost me $60 and I never asked the installer if he used it or not. I went with Amsoil synthetic gear oil and the friction modifier. Print out the FRPP gear install instructions that I put in a link on another post. Ask them to please review it before they install the gears because these are different than any gears that my installer had put in before in terms of the settings. Good luck and have fun.

On a side note I drove home before I reflashed my computer and I wondered why my speedometer said I was going 80 and everyone was ripping by me.

Everything would be included in the kit...

You may also want to pick up some new pinion bearings at a local parts store. An install kit isnt needed for the FRPP gearset.

I think that's only partially true. My FRPP 4:10's came with pinion spacers; crush sleeve; and nut. It didn't come with spacers to set carrier/ring gear backlash if required. It would also be easier to install a new pinion bearing, the larger of the two, that presses onto the pinion shaft, so as not to destroy the original bearing if you ever decide to switch gear ratio's back to stock. A new pinion seal wouldn't hurt either.

I wouldnt use the shims that come in the install kit from Motive... I am not sure about the other install kits. Do a search on shims and gears here, and check out my thread about it. I suggest you get a shim kit from a quality driveline shop, or ask your installer about it.
