I'd like to know the answer as well since I've had that problem qutie a few times myself. Here's the odd thing...I'd suspect the tire on the driver's side to stay put since it's got an extra 315lbs(me :-( ) but it's the passanger side tire that stays put.

Make sure you give the tires a good spin as you're going through the waterbox that way both will spin for sure.

Unless you've done a one wheel peel a 1000 times probably not. Maybe hurt it a little but not killed it.

+2... I know a few guys have trashed theirs. That's one of the reasons I put in an aftermarket differential (Detroit TrueTrac).

You're only spinning one tire because you don't have line locks and you are pressing the brake too hard. If you burned out your rear end because of it your dealer will laugh at you.

The differential in our cars is okay for normal driving but they can't take a beating. The clutch packs and posi unit wear out quick. Best way to remedy the situation is to get your gears done, like 4.10s and have them put a new differential in. The differential needs to be removed anyway when they put the gears in so it doesn't take any extra to swap them out. Will actually save them time because they don't have to take the ring out. Anyways most of the people here have the best luck with the Detroit TruTrac which runs for about 400-450 and that unit never breaks. Bascially will cost you the cost of a gear install plus the trutrac unit.

Problem is that it's my daily driver, and I do 100 miles a day so I'm not going up to 4.10's...I'm most likely going to change out the oil in my rear and trans soon, put some good synthetic and I'll add 1.5-2 bottles of friction modifier to the rear. We'll see how that works..

They could never prove it unless you give them video's or something. It's a non issue unless they can prove you have been tinkering around.

If you go in with worn out clutch packs, they'll send you packing! Besides, it's a wear item, like brakes. If the diff. fails, it'll fail badly. Not with worn out clutch packs on a 1 yr. old car.
On top of that, you gotta pay to play! If you take your car to the track, be ready to pay for something that breaks. If you happened to get the dealership replace it, you'll be back in the same boat in the near future anyways. You might as well get it done right and not have to worry about it again. The Tru Trac is as stout as you can get without going to a spool.

Are there any disadvantages to going with the Detroit TrueTrac over stock?

Not that I noticed. Some have said it's a wee little bit noisy over the stock unit. Not like a bad gear job noisy....just a little more noise. Some have also said it's different in the rain or on wet roads. I live in Florida and my wife nor myself never had an issue. Given, I never take corners at 40mph either.
The good things about it certainly outweigh the bad. No clutch packs to wear out. SOLID piece. No room inside for excessive movements. There's a cylinder that goes in between the ends of the axles and then you insert to cap/cover. It holds the cylinder in place, as well as closing up the inside of the diff. The a c-clip goes into place to hold that.
Put it this way, I had an Auburn Pro HD in my car after I tore up the stock unit. It lasted a week of daily driving and 4 passes at the track. POS!
